My understanding is to trim one from low on the plant as that one would be more mature and easier to root.. Is that incorrect?
 
This is what happeneds when an easy task now becomes complex. People have you confused. Do what I told u, everything will be fine.
 
I always clone the freshest, most recent and most succulent cuttings. They root faster than their lower and woodier counterparts, and the mainstems tend to fatten up quicker as well.
I see calcification with this method by Day 4, nubs by day 5, roots thrown no later than day 6 or 7. Everytime.

Ok so lowest part, but how tall should each clone be? How many nodes? In one of the sticky someone mentions it is possible to cut up a branch and get many clones with only one that has an actual growth tip. Does this work?

First, I disagree with the recommendation to rip clones from the "lowest part." Sort of a broad statement. Depending on the size of the plant, the lowest portion will usually contain the oldest and woodiest cuttings. These tend to be thinner and more diffcult to root. Your cutting selections should be of the fresher, thicker, softer variety.
What you're referring to regarding cutting up a branch into multiple cuts can indeed be done. Essentially it's no different than topping an established plant. For example: you have a branch. You cut it in threes at different nodes. The two bottom cuts will now grow out two Tops since you just chopped the mainstem( topping)
In regards to cutting site length, ideally like 4", but I get little 1" cuts to root all the time. Size of the cut has no relevance to whether it will root or not.

Thanks so much for the response.

Is there anything I should treat the tops of the cuttings that do not have a growth tip with? Or can i just put my gel/powder on the bottom and stick them in the dome in jiffy pellets like all the others?

Edit: related follow up question,

If I have a leaf with a long stem (about 2-3 inches) coming directly off the main stem, can i cut that off and turn it into a clone? (So thats a single large leaf coming off the main stem)

No, it isn't necessary. Just as it isn't necessary to treat the site where you have topped a plant. It will heal and the adjacent growth shoots will start to take off.
If you're going to use this method,(cutting up a single branch into multiple cuts) ensure that you have preferrably two nodes in either side of the stem.

If you're referring to just a leaf, then No.
If the leaf has a small node( branch) next to it then Yes.

Please forgive if this post is difficult to follow, I don't have any technical terms to speed it up.

So in the picture I have included focus on the stem that is most in focus in the picture about an inch (on my screen) to the right of the 2nd finger from the top (the one that is pointing).

I can see a growth tip, with two leaves spread out from just beneath it, and under that is another node with two shoots coming off that result in just single leaves. At that node where the two leaves come out I can see a tiny single bladed leaf and possibly some green pistils developing. Under that is (You can't see in the picture) where it comes directly out of the main stem there is also a second stem containing a single large leaf pointing downwards (thats the part that i think you are saying won't clone).

So the question is how many clones can I get out of a stem like this and where do I cut (if you could actually paint a little line on the image I would be very grateful… pictures are so much easier to understand)? I'm guessing maybe 2 or 3?

See where Buscemi's gun is pointing? Notice how if you were to cut here, that there would be two nodes directly below your cut site? That's where you make the cut if you want to clone using this method. Don't overthink it. Make the cut where you're going to have two new tops form on the next cutting down.

Thats the stem i was referring to yea, so if i cut there I get one clone above it, and if I cut below there i get another clone, so thats two total clones from that one branch?

Edit: and after that will the branch basically be dead or will it still possible continue to grow?

You're not seeming to grasp it. Here's a quick drawing before I walk down the street and throw down a few beers.
You're basically trying to make multiple cuts out of one branch, correct?
You're cutting directly above the nodes( branches) in order to achieve this.
Ensure that you are cutting above actual nodes and not just leaves( leaves typically go hand in hand with nodes however)
Is this making sense? I have no idea what you mean by " will the branch be dead?"
What branch?

And After i cut that all off there will still be a leaf coming out of the node on the main stem and there are some small early pistils at that node as well, so during flowering will bud still form there or will that part just die off?

My lights just came on. I'll clear off a branch and actually post pics. Hopefully you'll understand after seeing actual pics.. Stand by.
 
Say this is the branch you want to clone. You can make this branch into multiple cuts.( obviously just as an example since mine are in bloom) but same rules apply to vegging nodes.

This is the next portion down. Notice how the top was hacked off above the two adjacent nodes. Had this been a vegging plant, those little budsites would have instead grown out into new tops first, and then flowered..
