Cloning tops???

I have been reading up on Cloning and I have a question that I cant find a answer too. I understand that taking a lower branch seems to be the accepted approach BUT I am going to be topping a dozen plants here shortly and was wondering if a top would be suitable to clone. It might be a little difficult as the nodes are pretty close together but I was thinking maybe I can move the light up to get it to stretch some before I top them. Any opinions??

i like cloning tops better. if the node spacing is too tight, just remove the ones you don't need. i remove everything except the last two nodes on top.

All of my clones are tops and they root just fine. I hold back on the nitrogen 3 days or so before topping/cloning. Takes about 10 days in straight coco to get roots.

i don't know why holding off on nutes before taking cuts seems like a good idea to some. i've never done it, and do just fine. roots usually within 5-8 days. cloning the main cola works, but if it's really thick/woody, it can take a bit longer, plus the damping off issue...

I think the theory is that it encourages the cutting to produce roots to find sources of food other than what's already stored in its leaves. Whether or not it makes a big difference, I don't know.

Cloning with close nodes is far better...
Put at least two nodes under for roots....
However, if you have many multiple node clones, put 4 close nodes + under and you will up your chances for getting 100% to root....

I always noticed when watching clones grow that the tops grew just a little bit better than the side shoots.

I start my seedlings and as soon as the single adult leaf appears I put them under a 1kw hps HID 12/12 set at 44" glass to rock. Before showing sex I take a snipe off each seedling for cloning. Each snip is coded to each seedplant. The males and their coded snips are disgarded for binder.

When do I FIM a plant? As soon as there is three leaf/branch nodes below the cut and the shoot is big enough to clone

I prefer the nodes to be spaced out so the node to the snip point is at the top of the rockwool cube before the stem comes out the bottom. Adjust the light.
I snip, dip and stick the shoot into the hole made into the rockwool cube soaked in spent res water. .
