Closet grow - Sour Diesel - 4 weeks flowering (since flip)

I have four girls, all were supposed to be sour diesel, however, one of them is clearly not... I think its a lemon haze or a silver haze... very willowy and taking longer to flower than the others, also still growing A LOT 4 weeks into flower while the sour diesels have slowed down significantly.

I managed to pollinate one branch of my frostiest sour d with some Girl Scout C ookie pollen, I can't wait for those seeds!

I use 2-150HPS, 4-54watt T5s (516 total watts). I have not topped any of them. Only vegged 4 weeks from seed. I super-cropped all of them. I grow in a mix of 40% perlite 60% crap potting soil. I feed miracle grow all purpose. I probably over water, I have had ph issues, I starved em for a while. They still love me anyway! Just started using the miracle grow bloom formula now that they stopped yellowing. I have absolutely no complaints about miracle grow. Its cheap, i can buy it anywhere and my plants seem to love it.

There is far better than MG, but of concern is your lights, the 150 hps are more heat than light, although I like the flexibility, the best in your kit is the 54w T5 by far, options include extending the T5 to a rack of 6-8... 4 'footers or better 1x 400w digital hps/Mh, I prefer the T8 rack but I just know its been out dated by the new improved and multipurpose hps

ps do mark the spot you pollinated those seeds, with a little tape for fear of missing it when you harvest, also as an indication of ...how far that pollen actually goes ...lol

My light is a single unit... Spectra Max 516 from Sunlight Systems... It has one 150watt HPS on each end and two 4' T5s on both sides. I am in love with T5s. They have separate power switches so I run just the T5s during veg. I am super impressed with them and they produce almost the same amount of lumens as my HPS. I'll never give up HPS... I'd be scared to flower without it. With fans aimed the right way, I dont have heat issues so far. I saw a T8 four foot shop light at wal mart for $12.00 the other day, I'm keeping it in mind for my future veg cab. I think the difference between T5 and T8 is about 5-10 lums per watt ... but the price difference is HUGE.

I'm just getting back into growing and am no where near setup the way I want to be. I'll get there. someone just donated a 250watt MH... not sure what i'm doing with it yet... probably set up a bigger veg cab for it but I'll need fans exhaust etc... to be honest I think I'd rather stick with fluoros for veg. I could always add it to the flower closet but my plants are small (less than 2 feet from the dirt to the tops) and there's only four of them... i'm not sure it would be worth the added heat.

lol.. i definitely marked the branch, it was already kind of separated from the pack. I had so little pollen and I was so careful I wasn't even sure it took... well it did.. and it looks like a few specs made it to another branch or two.. i see a couple of shriveling orange hairs on them too. No big deal, the more phenos i get to choose from for my girl scout cookie crosses the better.

Being a successful grower means having a lot of ex grow junk around ...least for me anyways..
lots of tricks out their for the T5/T8 guys ...like

1: double the lumens and watts by adding another ballast to that tube ...but they do blow eventually
2: paint the top side of the tube(T5/T with heat resistant flat white paint, from an auto store(you know it don't get that hot, but just to be safe) its my favorite, to re direct lumens to below
3: look toward the gas lantern routine by richard delp, I've used it one or two times but am happy wit the traditional 12x12

Awesome tips thank you! I grew about four or five runs about six years ago. Back then I had a 2x4 storage cabinet with 1-150watt HPS (i actually rewired a street lamp) and one T12 4ft shop light. I had two females that i scrogged... it was seed from a bag mids so they took over 13 weeks to finish (I'll never know because they never made past mostly cloudy trichs). In that space with lousy genetics and only about 230 watts, I got 8 ounces dried. I was happy.

I'm hoping that now that I have real genetics and double the light (almost triple) I'll do even better. I'm sold on T5/T8s, I'll never grow without them again!

Have you tried LEDs.... I have researched them but I do not see how the cost can be justified. I haven't seen any out perform high wattage HPS grows either. They seem all sciencey and cool but I'm not seeing the benefit in a small personal grow... any thoughts?

LEDs I agree but the price has got to drop with so much competition out there, another 5 years anyways for me, as I prefer to bud in the sun supplementing with hps, and completing my germing and vegging under t8 and 400w Mh(the one full of fucking asbestos) I shit you not....note that when members buy there first, its a Phillips from the mid eighties at 400w marine grade, I fucking died when I opened it up ...just like the old soviet shit and I though Phillips was a good brand!
In parting, don't forget to hang a thread, taped to your t8/ t5 tubes hanging 2.5 inches so you just know your babes are in the zone ...my mentor told me that ...I never did it until 25 years later ...Dah!!!

I wish I had read the Richard Delp thread when i was growing sativas..... would have been better to speed up the finish rather than chop early! This time I'm determined to leave them alone at least a week longer than 'I think' they are ready. These should finish somewhere around nine weeks so i'm not quite half way through.

Another great tip on the thread! Unfortunately since its one unit, i have to distance the light for the HPS... but 150 isn't too bad and I can get within about four to six inches from the tops. I'll definitely use the thread idea in the veg cab, i push the envelope there and have to check them a few times a day, I dont have enough light in there yet.. 85watts of flouros in a 18"x18" box....

Wait what asbestos? So if it breaks, your Fckd? I need to look into the one I just acquired... Its a 250watt street light (lmao.. still in the street lamp casing)... the bulb is white, like.. not clear... i'm guessing its MH but I didn't see any markings on the part of the ballast that was visable.. i'll be taking it all apart anyway.

I've been hardening off my outside plants for a little more than a week and was wondering how the ones in the cabinet would like being moved in and out.
It actually has been, and is going to be hotter outside than I keep the cabinet this week and next 91 deg. yesterday. 87 today. 85 tomorrow.

LOL, you can call it whatever you want since it will be your own creation. I think it should depend on the smell, if it smells like gas go with the diesel and if its sweet go with the pineapple... maybe Pineapple Diesel! lol... I'm naming my future Sour D x Girl Scout Cookie... General Lee... after the dude who gave me the GSC seed (and the extra omg! lovely smoke)

We had that same conversation last night while I posted that. HaHa!!! Pineapple diesel was my sidekicks choice. Who knows its kind of like naming a new puppy. I don't think I have ever had a new pup that was ultimately called by its original name. I am loving the ultimate possible opportunities of blending my own favorite traits from known good genetics. It will be a long slow lovely process.

Agreed! I plan to cross my best seedlings back to the male girl scout cookie to get a more stable indica dom plant. I'm in the south so indica strains are hard to find and therefore more interesting locally.

LOL, as long as its not like naming a new kitten... it always gets called Kitty anyway. I think I called Buddha "Zen" for a few days but he let me know pretty quickly who he was.

Maybe we'll be at the cannabis cup ten years from now snubbing the noobs who think the cannabis cup matters while we secretly hope that our latest cross will win us some kudos
