Clueless chick here.....first time growing!

Hello! First off, I've been lurking for quite some time...finally started a grow around the first of June (Not positive on the exact date!) I'm growing indoors, using CFLS and a few tubes with a few fans, inside a small closet (with mylar wrapping paper on the walls as of tonight). Watered about every other day, and transferred tonight into larger containers. These photos were before I transferred them, and before I added a few extra lights.

Any ideas or tips would be super helpful....thank you SO much! <3

(For example- I have one that has grown 2 plants in 1 container- I know I only put one seed in, so I'm not sure what happened- do I just split them carefully? Or let the strongest survive? ;) )

I see some stretching, the tubes can be closer (an inch away from the tops)
When you transplant to bigger containers, plant the taller seedlings deeper so all of the plants are even with each other.

That way each plant will get the same amount of light.

Looking good so far. In the future you should avoid any clear containers and let them dry out a bit between waterings.

being its your first ide just let it grow and see what happens i would definitly look at other option for lighting ( shop lights )with cfls you want to maximize lighting by using sides of the bulbs with them surounding the plants and a couple on top for them to grow into for max growth having the lights 2-4 inches from the plants
im sorry to say your plant to light ratio is way high you can try to keep them small and flower at 1ft try for some nice small plants but you could hurt growth and yeild by keeping that many though if its bag seeds your better off keeping that many not nowing genetics for female to male ratios usually with bad seeds the male to female ration is high on the male side so keep stress levels downs for best result
24 hour timer
single pots
10-12 shop lights for your amount of plants should do something
27-42 watt bulbs
watering when soil dryer (use your finger to check give it a poke )
everything looks decent just do your best and hope for the worst

Hi Gravity, welcome to the forums. I'm with James, there's a little stretching but transplanting them early with fix that. As for the two plants sharing a container, it's still early enough to separate them. When you do it, you want to gently tease the roots so the soil falls out on it's own. It's easier when the soil is a little dryer. If you don't separate them they'll be stunted.

I really hope that drink thing was a joke.. lol

But yeah I didn't even realize the clear cups. You can just get bigger cups that are solid colored
place the clear cups (with the plants still in them) right in the bigger solid colored cups to make it dark.
Also jyermum is right about watering, with seedlings I only water once or twice a week.

You DON'T need an HPS light for flowering. They are great lights but they aren't 100% necessary
I've seen lots of great harvests on here using fluoros/cfl's all the way through the grow.

Don't waste a ton of money your first time
Use these plants to learn the fundamentals of growing before you do that.

i'd advise as well to avoid the clear pots

also be careful not to over-water
its the most common newbie grower mistake

best advise i can give is KISS
Keep It Simple Stupid

im here if you have any other quesions

and imo, leave the 2 in the single container and one will eventually win that little war

Thanks, Ganjames! I've moved the lights down, so hopefully that will help! And thanks for the tip on planting- I wouldn't have thought to do that!

Jyermum- Thank you! I'm so proud of my little plants, it's a bit silly... ;)

I've for sure learned a lesson on the clear containers! I never would have thought of that!

I'm always so afraid to let them dry out- but you guys are the experts, so I'll do my best to let them dry a bit! Thanks again!

Easterbunny- Thanks for the advice! I'm hoping to get some more lights soon! My main issue is that I'm growing in a 3' wide by 3' long closet....Any lights that I find that will fit have to be hardwired- and I can't do that :(

These are bag seeds, but they are high quality ones- no dirt! ;) - just not sure on all the strains. I do know one is White Widow, and wasn't a bag seed- should be female ;) Once I find out the sexes, I'm sure my plants will be cut back dramatically.

Thanks so much for the advice! :)

Vindicated- thank you so much for the welcome! When I transplant them, I should just put a little extra dirt around the plant to insure that it stands correctly, right? And thanks so much for the advice on how to separate them! I was worried I would mess them up- although they're not looking so great today, so they may not make it after all :(

And I LOVE your signature quote ;)

Umm i think you clicked the wrong bookmark here you go

Bahahahaha......You're awesome! ;) <3

haha! nah dude, i'm at the right place.......... What better chick can you get than one that grows herb!!!!!!
cos at least i know we got 1 thing in common. 2 including sex.................

Yeah, but I'm betting I'm better at one of the things we have in common- and once I learn about the other, I'll be good to go ;) haha!

I'm hoping it was a joke too, but who knows- I've always been the girl in a group of guys (paintball, video games, WoW, Xbox live, Etc....) so it doesn't bother me at all! ;)

I've put them inside the jiffy cups now, so I'm hoping that helps! And damn...once or twice a week? I'm watering wayyyyy too much then :(

Thank you so much for the encouragement with the CFL's....I don't have a ton of money to spend at the moment, so I'm having to make do with what I can get relatively low price at local places.....I don't mind spending it for good plants, but I just can't spend 500 right now on lights ;) Thank you again!

My rule with seedlings is mist the soil with a spray bottle 10-16 times every 3-4 days.
After a week or two when they start getting bigger I can fully water until I get a runoff.
Then after that I can leave them alone again until the top of the soil looks dry.

Just try not to stress too much about little things like watering
So many people on here treat gardening like brain surgery lol
