Coco, bigger or smaller pot ?

I have 2 plants in 2ltr pots atm. I'm going to repot and switch to 12/12 straight away. I have 11ltr pots or 18ltr pots to choose from. I'm not sure if less is more with coco, i think i remember reading somewhere that it performs better with cramped roots. They'll be flowering for 8-10 weeks.

What do ya think's best ?

Thanks.

It depends on the size of the plants... If it is going to be a big ass plant go with a big ass pot. I find it is best to water at least once a day in coco, flooding to 10-20% runoff, so if your plant can feed once a day in a bigger pot without getting too oxygen deprived down low then that is a plant with the size to utilize the bigger pot (if feeding daily). Coco is awesome for its ability to retain oxygen in the root area even with a well saturated media, so I like keeping her nice and moist with fresh food daily, instead of wet-dry-wet-dry. But then again that "dry-out" cycle can have a nice effect too. Comes down to experience and then preference. But a bigger pot will mean more nutrient cost, don't know your budget but just something to keep in mind. Just for example, a run that I just saw had sour diesel in 5 gal fabric pots. these were big ass plants and the grower was watering every other day to 10% runoff. each feeding of 6 plants required 15 gallons of water to achieve appropriate run off ratios. The grow went very well, however I feel that a daily watering would have sped things up, increased yield and would have been less stressful for the root zone (not that his plants appeared stressed at all, they were beautiful!). I'm not saying one works and one doesn't, more like very good vs a bit better. but my humble opinion the 11L pot will be more than adequate for a plant 3-4 ft tall, feeding once or twice a day. I'd say 18L pot would be better for plants that will finish 5-6-7 ft tall feeding once or twice a day. Hope that helps a bit, sorry too run on... Damn Dabs!

How big of a light?
How big are the plants rite now?
How much space will these two have?
Need more input :bigjoint:

I've used 11ltrs before without any problems. They say 4 liters of soil (coco) per month of growth is about right i think, which is what i have after a short veg then 8-10 weeks flowering. I think the roots might be better off tighter if they pull water out of the coco more efficiently. I water every day religiously. There's only so much root growth they can put out in 8 weeks of flowering.

Found out one of my plants is male yesterday anyway so i'm going to carry on vegging the one i have left. Oh well. Thanks for the replies.

Want big plants? Give 'em all the root space possible. 5 gal pots alltheway. Coco is a gnarly medium. Just make sure to watch for any deficiencies. Mag def is a coc-related problem. CaMg+ is rad, but epsom salt will do the trick in a stitch.

It is a time concern really. If you have the time and space to fill out the big pots than cut in some perlite and feed, feed, feed. Personally, I bottom feed 3-4 x day and top feed flush 3-4 times during flowering.

More roots more fruits, error on the side of bigger pots than you think you will need. Coco is cheap and reuseable so why not? I use 15 gallon pots, but I think 10g would be plenty big enough for what I do.

If you do 12/12fs in coco under 600 watts of hps, think 3 gallons will do the trick? I dont want them very big...

I run 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 gallon pots for 3' to 6' plants. Root mass is directly related to yield.

Yes that will grow pot. Key to smaller plants is less vegging and/or careful diligent pruning, and most importantly careful strain selection.
