Coco VS soil. Same strain. Planted at the same time. Unreal

@PopAndSonGrows and I are doing a long-distance side-by-side with some special HSC Mountaintop Mint Fems.

This is just a fun, friendly competition to see who gets the best haul and by no means scientific

I'm using Soil King- Big Rootz in a 4-gallon fabric pot and PopandSonGrows is using coco in a 3-gallon. Seeds were germinated on Sept 04. He has about a 10 hour advantage.
I'm using pH'd water with castings and compost and PaSG is using Flora Trio I believe.

I topped mine at about 3-4 weeks and used my "Hobo scrog"(coined by PopAndSonGrows) method of lazy LST, while PaSG topped his early and started LST immediately.

Flowering started on 10/28 and we're both using an 11/13 light cycle. Mine has been under LED the entire time and PaSG started out with a CMH but had to ditch it due to bulb or ballast failure(can't remember which).
This is where we're at as of today-

PopandSonGrows' appears to have Freakshow tendencies while mine appears relatively "normal".

Happy Growing and :peace:

Hey how did this go? Or how’s it going?

I thought I was going to have that problem. I run my tent exhausts 24/7. My house rh is around 23% right now. My 1 gallon humidifiers keep my tents between 50-60%, and I only have to refill every couple days. I don't get it, but I'm not complaining.
I go through a gallon every two days of distilled in my 1965 humidifier...and it keeps it above 50%....about the same for you?

Yea, only I use to water, and mine are digital. Other than that, about every other day I have to fill, and I think it's mostly because I'm opening them several times a day. I believe once the plants start getting some size, with abundance of leaves, transpiration supplements the humidifiers. It's the only thing I can think of.

Oh no you're definitely right...I've observed my humidity go up once my plants are in the ~flowered stretch and beyond stages,,, but not enough to keep it above 50% humidity.. and I got a few seedlings in my room.. welll a 'side room' off the same area... and I learned with the plants that are just finishing in a week or two here when they were smallings.... under 50% is no good for seedlings. ESP with my ceramic heater in there kicking on when lights are out to keep it above 70 f...During summer.. it wasnt a problem... winter though? No Bueno

Yea I definitely still need humidifiers. Just not as much as I thought with constant exhaust, and lung room at ~23% rh.

I just keep my seedlings in the mom tent, in a tray, with a heat mat under it. They seem to do alright. I haven't popped a seed in a while though.

yeah before i was putting a gallon of distilled thru there every 2-2.5 days they were...idk... crispy? Green but crispy...and I noticed I didnt have to give them as much water which cut down on my stress level for this new strain im doing...Seems like with Bruce banner as compared to GG#4....they're a little more fragile in the early seedling stage.. but now they're pretty insane for 3 weeks...Here are the BB seedlings... and the GG#4s which have yet to show a amber trich, even passing 90 days since seed......but I wont complain, they're getting fatter/more sugar coated by the day.

These are just some genetics I keep around. I'll clone them again in a few weeks and start them over.

Slazer beam, ghost train haze, doobie bird. Not the greatest, but they're still pretty new to me, and I'm still learning them. I'm getting there though. Lol

My first indoor was dwc. I got 12 zips plus larf and trim for butter. Those 12 zips lasted me 10 months. Lol

I've been growing in living soil for almost a year, and i have it down pretty much, there just a learning curve with new strains.

I'm not trying to flower those in the pic. I just keep taking cuts, and growing out the best ones for moms for more cuts. I get practice cloning, transplanting, and vegging them out, while keeping the genetics around, and learning them. I flower in a 3x3, in an earthbox, under a 400 watt timber.

Bottled nutes?

ahh ok, well i guess im the newb. haha... All i use is budz ffof made simple mix... ffSF at the bottom ...ffof 50% middle w\jobes 3-3-3 water soluble powder w\mycos with the middle and 25% ffhf top side and (ofcourse a good helping of perlite for drainage, as the strawberry fields can get...clumpy ) the happy frog to take it easy on the seedlings as I plant directly into the 5 gal fabrics....I top w\ffof once beg flower, jobes mid flower, then one more top of ffof near the end....Early on i water with neptunes fish/seaweed in veg, with calmag every other week....then I switch to straight neptunes seaweed kelp in flower every other week.... and then they become calmag every week whores with the LED...water in with RO amended (obviously) at 6.5 to allow for drift... as ffof is like 6.3 ish, I never take slurry... just water in correct... and let the soil do the work.. Nothing too special... I guess you could call it mostly organic????

hmm where does this myth that peat is inert come from? I'm sorry for pointing this out but reading this in grower forums all the time. ofc it's not fully enriched like worm castings but still, if you correct its acidic ph with dol etc some forms eg black peat takes through early veg alone, it contains N, just not much K, also lots of micro & other non-essentials/beneficials. as it is plant material that is broken/breaking down
I ran a quick search and it looks like peat mixes have come a long way since I've used them over 10 years ago. Lots of extra organic's included in the mix seems to be the new normal. Thanks for the correction.

I might just have to pickup a humidifier. Sounds like you're getting good results keeping the RH maintained with your exhaust on. Keeping RH in the ideal range is only going to help growth.

It helps considerably. It's one of those limiting factors.

I absolutely knew someone was going to say that stupid shit. I edited the post just for cupcakes like you:

"Before anyone says something I only just transplanted the SC on the right this afternoon. The soil plant is growing so slowly it's going to be another week or two before she's ready for the big pot and truth be told I can't stomach the idea of using soil. She's going in coco for sure. Soil is just too dam slow."
I have two plants. Both in the same pot size and one is twice the size of the other but same soil. I match their run off PH, feed the same nutes, same schedule.

In early veg there was a huge difference between the plants and growth speed, in flower the smaller plant has denser looking bud sites while the other is more stretched but there are definitely a lot more.

Plants even with the same geneics are like eye browes theyre sisters no twins.

Another month and I should know the weight diffefence in output.
