I usually use pure coco but i came across a few bags of sunshine mix #4 advanced. is it worth using? i use sensi grow for veg and connoisseur a and b and a few additives for flower. is it safe to put clones into SM#4 out of the bag?
cool thanks. yeah i was asking if it is to hot to put fresh rooted clones inI use Sunshine Advanced Mix #4, from seed to harvest. I never have to cut it or mix it and it comes pre-innoculated with Mycorrhizae. I'm not sure what you are asking when you say, "...clones into SM#4 out of the bag"? But after I root in an AeroCloner they move to Sunshine Mix for the rest of their life.

That's what I thought but when I googled sm#4 I found some old threads about it burning people's clones up. Thank you I appreciate itIt isn't hot, there are zero nutrients in it. I sprout seeds, directly, in it.
cool thanks. ive been growing in pure coco and 50/50 coco/ perlite for about 4 years now and have had nothing but success. im interested to see how SM#4 advanced compares.i'd use the ss#4 for fresh rooted clones, you would feed it every other day and it would take and drink it very nicely. if u use pure coco tho, without perlite, feed once every 3 days, i am noticing my rooted clones are not drinking as fast. so i have to feed once every 2-3 days. my advice is to use ss#4 for ur clones, and then switch to pure coco when u transplant for flower. that drainage is nice for the first weeks of veg. u can ALSO mix the 2 together. and get a very nice blend. up to u tho.
yeah ive been growing in pure coco for a few years now and it is great. but the place i buy my coco from was out and someone offered me a few bags of advanced for free. the SM#4 advanced also has a decent amount of coco in it where as the regular SM#4 doesnt.Try pure coco.... no perlite.Peat based medium is inferior to coco in all aspects...imo
ive never used coco specific nutes but i certainly thought about it alot. when i first started i used fox farms nutes in DWC and coco lol but i still got decent results. i run AN now and love it.I had nute lockout all the time when i mixed coco and peat...been in coco for 7 yrs love it...things have been great since i started using coco specific nutes.

No, it has peat alsoAdvanced Sunshine Mix #4 has NO peat! It's coco base. I started in NFT and now use it exclusively. I am very happy with it. My flower room about a week ago. (That is a 1000 HPS but I shot through my Method 7's).
I use a mix of Dyna Gro Foliage Pro and General Hydroponics Flora Series.

I tried it when it first came out. I wasn't super impressed. I would rather either grow in a coco/perlite mix. Or just a regular peat based dirt. With that said, I'm growing at another location rite now with Black Magic moisture controlA peat/coco/castings blend. Works good also.
man i miss the rep system. I used to be a somebodyThanks! I have no wish to use Peat. When I initially looked into using this the bags only listed Coco Coir. So now I will be changing mixes. I really appreciate your pointing this out with the reference. Really pisses me off because my mentor told me to use Sunshine #4 (not the advanced) and I refused because it had Peat, sigh.
I'd give you some rep if the board still had it LOL.
