Coffee Can Growers

Wanted to try a recirculating dwc in coffee cans. The biggest complaint is how fast a plant can drink up the coffee can amount of water
Its not that bad man. I changed my res 1 time a week and part way through the week i topped off with straight water not a single problem.

Oh and another helpful hint make sure you have 2x the folgers cans as you do plants at ALL times. That way when its res changing day you simply mix up all the new res and simple lift the plant air stones and such out and replace in the new res. Doing it in a bathtub is also helpful then simply clean out the used res's and your ready for your next switch its common sense but thought i would throw that out there for everyone. I also sah some smaller cans glued one on top of another to increase res size and depth just make sure the glue is for use with water.

I got my water pump today and I'm going crazy digging through piles for my air pump.

Might be a dumb question but how do you start a seed in hydroton net cup? Just like soil or what? Sorry I'm a coco and soil grower
Please add me to the competition. Should be a blast !!

Pretty sure earlier in the thread at least one person said they had to add water daily.

My rdwc might have to be put on hold and I'll just do single bucket and hope it is female

Quick Question: Someone saw where I was growing in a red container, that light wrecks havoc on such a colour. They suggested strongly that I cover the red aspect of the Folger container in black. Just wondering if there is any truth or just a myth.

Thanks for the post time
Happy Holiday Trails !!

Im gonna add a 3 gallon rez to my coffee can on a recirculating setup I think, cause daily rez changes is a chore.

Bulkhead fittings from the hydro store work great ;)

You mean by growing scum in your res im not sure i get the ? and it would all depend on how many watts your running and how much light gets in the res. I run a 150 and haven't had any problems i run the red 48oz i also use yogurt containers as net pots just to through that out as i dont think i have mentioned that yet. Every 3 weeks to a month i run a hydrogen peroxide mix down through the top of the net pot down through and over the roots as a prevention im a firm believer in clean res changes and running only clean fresh solution and new clean res at each change.

Welcome to the thread maine and SlimJim!!!! Very true Maine.....but I use the those Sun Blockers that people put up in there windshield of their cars. Its real easy to cut them into strips and duct tape them around the container. Light will penetrate through the coffee containers. I havent had any slime, algae or root problems yet (KNOCK ON WOOD) but I am also using a tea.

@Slim Jim those are some danky ass buds you posted earlier!!! Great work bro!
@Mike that plants roots have been through a lot and look how beautiful and white they are now. Good job and glad you beat the slime bro!!!

Peace

Thanks for the feedback. It is very much appreciated.
What gets me these days (since I feel I am a lot older than most on RIU) is the usefulness of recycling materials. I am like ... wow ... I should have thought about using yogurt containers as a net pot, as stated by BKB. All of these little things add up, and prevent so much landfill waste, or at least, slows it down a tad. The resources are there, and it is up to each of us to find other ways to make them more useful after their desired use.
Great info BKB and thanks everyone :-)

LMAO :-) I am a Yankee Fan of Old ... I just like the way things used to be. I remember all so well '69 and Tom Seaver and the Mets !! That was a great ( yet few and far between) good years for the Mets. I do not like all of this money that goes out to these guys who are placed on the 14 DL for an ingrown toe-nail, all the while paying them 20 plus or more a year (Especially the Yankees). I can no longer afford to take my 5 year old grandson to a Major League Game unless I mortage my apartment ( Shit I don't even own a house to mortage). I just like old baseball and welcome some great banter between fans of the game. :-) I guess I am weird for feeling that way ... But ... Let's Play Ball :-)

BTW .... I have an Official Yankees Thread on here :-)
