i recently set up a grow tent and only have one inline fan at the moment, and i was wondering whether i should put it at the bottom bringing cold air in? or set it up at the top taking hot air out?

Blowing hot air out should also bring air in, and all that is a good thing. Actually where are you blowing the hot air to?

I pull through the filter then push through the light and out of my tent.

I dumped my inline intake fan and went the passive route. I get even better air intake without it. Open a few vents down low, mount fan/filter (if you have 1) up high.

Pull hot air out.

Set your inline fan up in the top of your tent and blow the hot air through the top.

This will create negative air pressure in your tent, this is not a bad thing.

If you leave the lower intakes open cool air from outside the tent will naturally flow into the tent to replace the air your inline fan is blowing out.

Unless the rest of the tent aside from intake and exhaust is hermetically sealed blowing cold air in will allow hot air to linger around and build up near the top. Not a good idea.
