Story submitted by Eric Worrall

Antarctica continues to defy the global warming script, with a report from Meteo France, that June this year was the coldest Antarctic June ever recorded, at the French Antarctic Dumont d’Urville Station.

According to the press release, during June this year, the average temperature was -22.4c (-8.3F), 6.6c (11.9F) lower than normal. This is the coldest June ever recorded at the station, and almost the coldest monthly average ever – only September 1953 was colder, with a recorded average temperature of -23.5c (-10.3F).

June this year also broke the June daily minimum temperature record, with a new record low of -34.9c (-30.8F).

Other unusual features of the June temperature record are an unusual excess of sunlight hours (11.8 hours rather than the normal 7.4 hours), and unusually light wind conditions.

Dumont d’Urville Station has experienced ongoing activity since 1956. According to the Meteo France record, there is no other weather station for 1000km in any direction.

wow........a lot of extreme weather since that crazy ole Industrial Revolution began. coldest. warmest. driest.
And in 1000 years people will say "Can you believe they used to walk outside in only a tee shirt?"

It gets cold, then it warms, then it gets cold.

Its done it for billions of years.

its been doing it a lot faster since the Talking Monkeys discovered Fossil Juice.

The climate is experiencing more record breaking conditions than normal. The climate is changing, not warming necessarily, but more severe.

Can't wrap my brains around that one either.
I think something is lost in translation there.
According to records, they get about 2-3.5 hrs of sunlight a day during June. I can only assume by "excess" they mean total unimpeded sun exposure for the month.

The length of a day doesn't vary by year tho, only by season.

The OP claimed 4 extra hours sunlight per day, which frankly is absurd.
they mean Clear Skies.

since it's winter down there, they should be experiencing storms cloud cover and shit, but it's not overcast.

clouds are insulators, so it's colder than shit when there's clear skies.

no, youre just paying more attention to it.

Antarctica is noted for it's cold and severe weather, just as LA is noted for being sunny and hotter than balls, and san fancisco is cold damp and foggy.

if global warming is responsible for all weather patterns, it's responsible for NONE of them.

The sun is 12-12 at the equator on the solstice. In Antarctica it never sets, just circles the horizon
thats retarded.

the sun DOES set, even at the poles, cuz we have an axial tilt.

when the pole in question is pointed at the sun (the respective summers) days are longer, when pointed away, they are shorter, but the sun still rises and sets.

Sample size too small.

Insufficient data.
by the time the sample is large enough, it will be too late. I care not. I'm designing a machine that turns humans into a bottle of water and 12 cheeseburgers. two-legged Komodo dragons such as myself will fare just fine.
