Confused about a few things

## I have 5 plants just over 90 days in veg still. very healthy but a few got rootbound, were transplanted from 5 gallon to the yellow pot in pictureafter LST same plant.jpgis this wilted2.jpgthe second picture is before transplant and 1st pic is after transplant.
Back to the question. I was led to believe one could keep a plant in 5 gallon pots indefinitely and that the plant would just stop getting larger. Isnt that how one keeps a mother plant long term? I may be seeing signs of rootbound again. I finally have my flower room and ventilation installed so Im ready to flower. But with 2 months flowering will I have to replant them into bigger pots to accomodate root expansion?

OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM WELCOME. tHIS IS MY FIRST CROP.

##Secons question. I have a 4ft by2ft by 5ft tent Im using as my veg from now on. ARE CFL's comparable to HID as long as you match the wattage and lumen output? I have a 400w MH but it gets too hot in that relatively small tent. I would love to be able to use the CFLs because of the elimination of heat as an issue.

## Also- I have some very slight leaks of light into my flower room. How critical is it that no light penetrate into flower zone? I built it myself and to door needs to be kinda forced onto front of flower room and my lack of carpentry skills led to gaps.

THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ AND OFFER INPUT.

Light leaks can cause her to herm on ya... I dont see the benefit from having a huge mom when space is limited like that..just take a few clones an keep them as moms ...when they get big throw into flower room...Cfl's can not hang with hid...going to need a vent that tent

And if you are in Zona..you will always be dealing with heat..so probably look into leds or aircooled hoods.

I always repot a week before I start to flower/12/12

you can easily use CLF for Veg. plants in Veg dont need as much light as in flowering (1/3)

tho if you have a MH try to use it, get a cool tube and a 4" ventilation for it, will make em grow much faster then with a few CLFs

biggest different is light penetration, CLFs need to be with in 2-6 inch`s from the plants to provide good light, a 400W MH can be keeped 2 feet away and still provide more light then the CLFs

and no light leaks, its a big no no unless you want problems in flowering..
treat em like babies in 12/12, no repotting, no topping/training and no light leaks doing dark time and keep the temps under 85F if possible between 75 and 80F doing light time, or you risk problems and Hermination aso.

get some dutch tape, growers best friend and make that tent light proof, a black curtain out side can also be used to seal up any light leaks from the zipper Etc.

Well for starters a 5 gallon pot wont get you much of a plant. When your plants roots fill up the pot they then restrict the flow of water, nutes, O2 etc. you cant get a plant that would normally grow to 5 foot high and make a 3 inch bonsai out of it. As far as light penetration some strains are very touchy and some Ive had light leaking in like a holed umbrella but they just keep on budding.

#1 You can keep a mother indefinetly if you take cuttings from her occassionally. Your mom has been able to
give up clones for 2 months, why are you not already taking clones? When you take clones or cuttings the plant
happily goes to work replacing the cutting with more greenery.

#2 MH bulbs are much hotter than HPS. If you have a 2-way ballast for your 400w'er check to see if your ballast will
also accomodate a 400W HSP bulb. Much less heat.

#3 You have to allow quite a bit of unneeded light into your system to do harm. If the doorway is your problem hang a blanket
over the door. If you do that make sure the blanket has not raised temps in the room.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Thanks big Steve- good info and greatly appreciated. I have taken clones from her, but I'm concerned she will grow out of her pot during 2 months of flower

Thanks again

i was under the impression that marijuana does not focus so much on root expansion when it is in flowering light cycle.

Therefore - become root bound is less likely as the plant is focused on reproducing as it life cycle is ending.

once a plant begins flowering - it is worried less about its own structural growth and more about reproduction and continuing its genetics. SotF

In conclusion, you will not likely need to repot after a 5 gallon or w/e your using. but you always can.... its your option as a grower.
