1.) how many inches is necessary in height? let's say 12 plants? 6" fine? 12"? 18"?

2.) in clones why are people splashing the rockwool or putting a submersable pump and have it trickle water. Why not just sit the rockwool slightly in the water????

1.) For what? Clones? Flowering? Completion?

2.) If you do that the rock wool will become water logged and could cause damage to the plant. You want the roots to seek out the water to promote root growth.

bubbleponics method of growing takes advantage of the submersible pump to drip the nutrient solution onto the rockwool. DWC rely on the air bubbles popping onto the rockwools to keep them moist. I have used both methods and they work flawlessly. I also did the rockwool slightly into the nutrient solution and it does work just not as effective as the drip top down method in bubbleponics. Water moving constantly over the rockwool reduces the chances of mold and algae buildup I have noticed. The bubbles popping is the best ive noticed. You want to maintain the rez water level at just barley 1/2 an inch below the net cups. SO your roots will be able to take up the nutrient solution and have access to plenty of water and oxygen. I hope this clears things up for you. Good luck.

Peace and positive energy to you.

https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/15030-batch-clones-rockwool.html this thread can answer all your questions about rockwool cloning, and yes you dont want to sit them in water, Al's method is to dip a corner in water once a day. get it to wet and the clones will get damping off disease and die
awesome thanks.

now to question #1.) Once i get the plant into a SOG how many inches of water do they need to be in? no set amount? i was thinking 6-8" in height. I don't want a frickin pool here.

i primarily use a flood table these days but i keep my moms in 3 gal dwc. i use net pot lids with rockwool, i keep the water level about 2 inches below the bottom of the basket. but i change my water levels at diff stages of growth simply cause once its full on huge it drinks a few galons a day and keeping it a little higher makes my life easier.

something to note for people doing dwc, is a misconception i had when starting. it isnt the act of pumping air to the bottom of your rez that adds oxygen to the water, its when the bubbles break the surface tention that oxygen is added. i point this out because i use simple air stones, but when the roots start getting huge they tend to wrap around your stones greatly preventing air from getting to the surface, even if you are pumping air into your roots you will start to see some drooping over time, signs of slight overwatering. i have since pulled my stones to the sides of the buckets, on my larger plants i will even put them on top of the roots a few inches below the water level so the roots cant effect the flow of air at all. just remember you need air pumping into your water, but you need those bubbles to get to the surface. hope that helps
