Confused, Ramblings ..Mentor please?

I really want to try a inside hydro grow. I have read and the more I read the more confused I get. First just 5 plants at a time Maine law 5 is just a misdemeaner/fine.. I read all of Roseman's bubblephonic system..Its cheap and probably perfect to learn with.Or Not? He claims if you use their ferts and his directions there should be no PPM problems.. And I can see what the system looks like and just what comes with it..
This PPM is whats confusing me..How does a person know what the readings should be day by day. is there a chart that shows? Or does each brand have its own PPM chart that comes with the nutes. Like Fox farm thats what I use for outdoor grows. I know they also have a hydro type..
I have room and height 6ft plus abit so I can let them get tall for max yield. This system seems like it might not be good for larger plants. I looked at this onehttp://www.ecogrow.com/index.cfm/product/943/mid/13/nid/0/home.html and I like it better it says its- ""an air driven “spider” drip system "" - price $205.00

Then this one which I'm betting is probably best.RAINFOREST® 66 Six 6' Site Aeroponics System for just abit more then the previous one .. This one I'm leaning towards. But the info isn't clear. Is this system complete ?ready to go just add wate,.nutes and seeds? I have a switchable 400 watt light.. I'm also assuming this unit should come with complete instructions. And easy access to change out the water?
I know I have asked alot of queastions. But I really want to do this right. I wish they had a hydro book for dummies..

One more thing I need a meter any recomendations? Thanks

Ok - i'll start out with a sample chart but know that every grower fine tunes and watches the plants and adjusts accordingly. Some growers double these recommendations, others may halve them or use no nutes at all.

That said - here are some guidelines to get you started:
Week 1 - PPM: 0
Week 2 - PPM: 0-300
Week 3 - PPM: 3-500
Week 4 - PPM: 5-700
Week 5 - PPM: 7-900
Week 6 - PPM: 9-1000
SWITCH TO 12/12 LIGHTING AND BLOOM NUTES (this is just an example you don't have to switch to 12/12 now)
Week 7 - PPM: 3-400 (note the drop after switching nutrients)
Week 8 - PPM: 4-500
Week 9 - PPM: 5-600
Week 10 - PPM: 6-700
Week 11 - PPM: 7-800
Week 12 - PPM: 8-900
Week 13 - PPM: 9-1000
Week 14 - PPM: 10-1100
etc...

You will definitely need a PPM meter and pH meter - both are very important. A little bit of nutes goes a long way (a teaspoon or two of nutes to a gallon of water could easily be 300 PPM).

If the water is not the right pH, the plant will not be able to utilize all the available nutes and become deficient even if the PPM is high!

Also - I have and use a Rainforest 66 and like it a lot! It does come with everything you need (except the lights) and even includes 3 bottles of the General Hydroponics Flora series nutes (micro, grow, and bloom). It comes with the nutes just mentioned, the reservoir, vortex sprayer pump, the lids, 6" net pots, coco-tech liners with lids and hydroton growing media.

Here's a link to the instruction manual for it:

It sounds like you have a lot of questions and i think you came to the right place. lots of people here that are happy to help. Drop me a line if you have any rainforest (or other) questions.

Thanks for your help. I really think im going with the rainforest 66 system. I'll be back for more queastions I'm sure. I have alot of experience growing but its always been outside soil.. I've been afraid to go with a hydro system. But having such a short growing season outside. I'm going to get my feet wet this winter and try it..
Thanks for the offer to pm you with any queastions. Just going with the six pot one as I am only going to grow five at a time.Do you think my light should be enough 400 watts? Interchangable HPS and HP..
One more ? with your rainforest do you top or list your plants?

you'll be up and running in no time. i think the light is more than adequate. i top and tie down. i grow 4 and they still want to overgrow one another. i recommend getting a siphon hose - it makes emptying it much easier.
