I am growing from seed. Most of my reading says i should use a heated propagator or a propagator with a heat mat. Ive been to my local "gardening" store and the man says with a smile "growing from seed? Do not use a propagator. " Its day 3 in the propagator and has not grown past the rapit rooter.
what the f !?

First, you need heat if you can not get the magic temp of 75 deg. If you do not live in a cold climate or own a refrigerator you might need a heating pad thingy.

Said thingy is not made to make the seed grow fast?. I don't know who is telling you this or leading you in that line of thought.

Second, keep reading and finding the right answers, believe me there is tons of mis-information here. Don't over think it, it's called weed for a reason.

check out my grow journal link below, detailed grow info. i grew from seed. with a heat mat, seed starter plugs/medium + kit/humidome. i have 2 tents and grow in a basement w/ambient temps at 65* year round. so i needed some warmth. i dont know if it was the strains im growing or what, but these are some seriously slow growing plants. they have doubled in growth in the last week. which i am extremely happy.

i also put a towel between the heat mat and seed tray/dome. i dont wanna cook the bottom of the tray or plugs. vents are completely closed for 2 weeks. then cracked open about a 1/16" to allow some fresh air. 2x daily i remove lid completely to allow fresh air to circulate for 5-10 mins while i check on the rest of my grow. i also use 2-4" T8 6500k bulbs 24/7.

I'm not sure i understand what you're speaking about ? Said thingy = ? ? ? which makes seed grow fast ? I didn't write anything about speeding up the process. i just want a successful grow and so far I've killed 2 seeds and this 3rd one might also die if it doesnt have heat i guess but i do not own a heat mat fuck i gotta go buy one asap.

i don't use a heat mat which probably explains the growth being stunted.. emm i own a refrigerator but it aint that warm downstairs... I guess il need a heat mat asap.

oh I thought you said you had one. I don't use one. sometimes it just takes time for them to pop

I don't use one either. I germinate in paper towel method and then plant into soil. In a day or 2 they are above soil and I turn my lights on

I never use heat to germ seeds just room temperature should be plenty. Placing in the soil will be much easier skips all the transplants and the risk of breaking the taproot.

Thanks everyone. my room temp is colder than 20 and ive heard it might be crucial, ive got the pad under it in my dome gonna open up the vents as soon as the sprout a little

I just put seed in soil water and in 2-3 days poof sprouts. Colder areas might need a little heat.

dude my trouble is not germinating them, its the seedling stage.. My germinated seed has been 4 days in the propagator ,, 2 days without heat and 2 days under warm heat mat... As i watered the plug yesterday the seed was moving with the water.... (in other words, the seeds root did not seem to dig into the Rapid Rooter) I checked it out this morning and it KINDA looks like its digging in today... il make sure in 2-3 days.... Buut i'm pretty sure she'l be just fine. hopefully...
thanks guys

I have done the same method for 10+ years.
No heat mat here, waste of money and can cause some real problems imho.
Btw high temp during germination from what a professional breeder told me will cause more male plants.
I have always germinated around 77 degrees and have just about always had 75%+ of all the seeds ive cracked turn out female.
As long as your room is not cold heat mats are not needed.

You can just put them on top of your refrigerator. I used a heat mat once, but it was too hot. A controller for it costs more than the heat mat. You only want a soil temp of 70-75 degrees. As long as they're in a warm room, nothing else is needed. You may be just keeping them too wet?

You will get there. As you can see, everyone has there favorite way to get it done. It gets much easier after the first grow!

Good luck!

Yeah with much more reading, thanks buddy

A trick my old Dead head friend taught me. You have a tv or a computer running, seed in mug of room temp water cover with plate let it sit on top or near unit check daily. once it cracks and shows white you tweezer them into cubes or medium...try it experiment on bagseed.

use party cups fill with nuteless soil, leave three inch or less room on top put seed in hole cover cup with plastic rap open daily to breath place cfl like 1inch or so off depending on heat.

This is all shit that I do personally may work for you may not

This is what I do. Get a paper towel wet. Wring out the excess water. Fold up your seeds inside the paper towel. Place paper towel and seeds in a zip lock baggie and close it half way. Place zip lock baggie in a dark place like the top shelf of your closet. Check daily. You should see visible humidity droplets on the inside of the zip lock baggie. You shouldn't need to water it until it sprouts, but don't let it dry out. Mist it with water if you need extra moisture. In a couple days, viola you've got a sprout. Carefully place sprout in soil with tap root pointing down. Bury 1/4 inch below the soil surface and cover gently. Soil should be pre-moistened. In a couple more days you'll have a healthy sprout breaking the soil surface. Turn on lights and let the fun begin bongsmilie

....This is crazy. You guys make me feel stoned. seed+water+dirt=seedling. Johnny appleseed didnt have no propagator or heating pad dude. ;)
