LAKE MARY, Fla. -- Lake Mary police want to find the people who abandoned a suspected drug house. They found pot plants and growing equipment inside a home on Samantha Lane (see map), but no people.
Police were led to the house by contractors who were there to do some work. When they went inside, they found bags of pot and growing equipment.
Someone went to great lengths to hide what was going. They even sealed shut the garage door with foam so that the smell of marijuana wouldn't drift out. The lawn was kept up and the walls freshly painted. On the outside, the Lake Mary home looked normal.
When workmen went inside, they found a pile of marijuana plants stuffed in trash bags. Police found dying pot leaves, broken grow lights and bags of sod. It appears someone used the house to grow marijuana and then skipped out. Even police were surprised.
"From the outside, you'd never tell there's a grow house. The lawn is kept immaculate. The home is kept up well," said Officer Anthony Seda, Lake Mary Police Department.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News the house was in foreclosure and the last tenants moved out a year ago. Occasionally, they would see a black pick-up, but that's it. Even through property records, police said it could be difficult to find out who left the plants.
"It's hard to say who was using this as a grow house this time. We don't know if somebody leased the house to another person and they leased to another person. While the house was empty for the month, did somebody manage to get a key into the house," Seda explained.
Neighbors in the quiet subdivision said it's pretty unsettling that their neighborhood was used as a place to grow pot.
"Yeah, it's scary, cause it's Lake Mary and you think you live in the best community," neighbor Fior Espinal said.
Police said they will be talking to the owners. According to the Seminole County Property Appraisers' Office, the current owner is Omar Chin.
