Contrail/Chemtrails - whats the scoop?

So I know there's a lot of smart folks here at RIU, and there is one question that begs me for answers and that is: What are Chemtrails, and are they harmful to the public?

So when I googled "What are all those lines in the sky?" I was given a host of websites (wikipedia, science.howstuffworks.com, etc) that referred to chemtrails as "Contrails" and said they were produced because of hot gas being cooled rapidly in the ionosphere, creating particles of ice essentially that hang around in the air for awhile and dissapate.

Then I googled, "chemtrails admitted by" and I found "a whole nother" (f u stewie) host of sites that claim that a NASA scientist admitted to spraying Lithium Oxide in the air in order to observe wind/magnetics up there. They claim they are being very open about it, and that it is harmless to the environment (people included).

Then I googled, "lithium oxide MSDS" (Material Safety Data Sheet) and I found this:
"The toxicity of lithium compounds is a function of their solubility in water. Lithium ion has central nervous system toxicity. The initial effects of lithium exposure are tremors of the hands, nausea, micturition, slurred speech, sluggishness, sleepiness, vertigo, thirst, and increased urine volume. Effects from continued exposure are apathy, anorexia, fatigue, lethargy, muscular weakness, and changes in ECG. Long-term exposure leads to hypothyroidism, leukocytosis, edema, weight gain, polydipsia/polyuria (increased water intake leading to increased urinary output), memory impairment, seizures, kidney damage, shock, hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, death. (Sax, Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials, eighth edition)"

Also included:
"Acute Effects:
Inhalation: SEVERE IRRITANT AND CORROSIVE. Causes irritation to the respiratory tract and mucous membranes.
Ingestion: SEVERE IRRITANT AND CORROSIVE. May cause central nervous system effects, circulatory failure and cardiovascular collapse.
Skin: SEVERE IRRITANT AND CORROSIVE.
Eye: SEVERE IRRITANT AND CORROSIVE.
Chronic Effects:
Inhalation: May cause pulmonary edema and lung damage.
Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal irritation, renal dysfunction, derangement of neuromuscular activity, diabetes and kidney damage.
Skin: May be an irritant and corrosive.
Eye: May cause blurred vision.
Routes of Entry: Inhalation, ingestion, skin and eyes.
Target Organs: May affect respiratory system, skin and eyes.

So I'm not trying to say they are good or bad or harmful or helpful. I just want to know what the smart folks here on RIU have to say, so I can refine my understanding of this phenomenon.

I will say though, I don't like looking up at the sky and seeing all of those lines in grid formation hanging over my city every day. It just feels weird.

So what do you say???

chemtrails are horseshit.

there is no vast conspiracy to fill the atmosphere with "chemicals" for any nefarious scheme. the "trails" you see are CONdensation Trails, not CHEMical Trails.

and no, HAARP isnt stealing iran's rainclouds and sending them to israel either.

I'm not concerned about vast conspiracies as much as I'm concerned with what we are putting into our atmosphere (at taxpayer expense nonetheless). I've read that they are condensation, like I said in the above post. My question refers to the discrepency between what the NASA scientist is saying on record and all of the older websites (that say what you said).

He calls them CHEMtrails himself, and specifically says Lithium oxide is what they are putting in.

I'm not shouting conspiracy, I'm just concerned about the MSDS facts about lithium oxide.

lithium oxide sprayed into the upper atmosphere is dosing the ENTIRE PLANET (with stuff that came from this planet anyhow) as such the hazard posed by lithium oxide experiments is negligible.

you provided no citation for this "NASA Scientist", so i cannot even begin to imagine who he might be, or why he might use the loaderd, and decidedly unscientific term "chemtrails".

look at the LD50 for lityhium oxide, measure the amount sprayed in the alleged tests, estimate the dispersion rates, and then determine your potential dosage.

if the estimated dosage is measurable, i will be shocked into silence.

if it is anywhere near the dosages used pharmaceutically to control psychotic behaviour, then you would not be paranoid enough to worry about the imagined hazard.

your paranoia is proof positive that you have not been exposed to any Lithium Oxide Chemtrails.

now smoke some weed, have a push and get a BJ bro. not necessarily in that order.

If there's lithium oxide in exhaust trails, i am very much not worried.
Two things.
1) Lithium oxide in the atmosphere first reacts with water to form lithium hydroxide hydrate, and then with carbon dioxide to form lithium carbonate.
2) Dose defines a poison. Milligram amounts of lithium are harmless and in the noise floor. Bipolar folks typically take over a gram of lithium carbonate daily without undue consequence and with a distinct therapeutic action.

that list of toxic effects from lithium that you posted ... was there any dose or plasma level info appended?

Thanks for the information canna, I will research what you said and add that to my understanding of this issue.

No dose or plasma level.

I appreciate not being talked down to, as I am here to gather information and that's it. I'm not here to prove anything to anyone except myself. There is so much information on this subject, wading through it becomes impossible without the help of another's perspective.

And there are arguments and counter-arguments (in the form of comments and entire websites) for every point discussed it seems. Like I said, too much information to wade through. I just want to know what my tax dollars are paying for and there seems to be only 1 trail - it leads you in a circle.

Trying to ask my "representatives" is like asking an answering machine a question. You get a script about how much they care about you, and that they aren't interested in this topic at this time.
