Controlling light outside

rather than grow 7' plants that freeze before they bud, i was thinking of covering a plant with a dark trash can when it gets dark, then uncovering in the morning to make 12/12. anyone try something like this? some plants are already 3' high. j

for under a $100 you can make a simple hoophouse out of PVC pipe and greenhouse plastic, I just built one 8x8x6.5ft. Pretty sweet I got a hella of a good headstart on the garden this year with it. that would help you extend your growing season.

im trying it on a few this year, but rather than go up at 6 in the morning i cover up 12 hrs after sunrise, and one the sun has set i uncover

Yeah like he said make a greenie outta PVC... even if its small its way better than a trash bag! and then do like the other guy said and cover it up when you want and un cover it when it gets dark... unless you wanna wake up real early and uncover it!
