Controlling temperature in a cold climate.

Hello to everybody reading this,

After some housing changes and getting back to growing, alot of variables changes.

My question is the following

What is mostly affecting stunted growth / plant shock in regards to temperature swings

-high temperature swings in the air?
-high temperature swings in soil?

I'm considering to get a heathing mat to keep my pots / soil warm as a solution to the high temperature swings i will have during cold seasons in my country. but i'm not realy sure if it's the right decision.

Any insights i can get would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

I don't think heating pads will be a great option long term. Are you not able to stabilize temps with your regular heat/ac? What kind of temp swings are you looking at?

No AC or central heathing.
I put the tent up in the attic and there's no insulation in the roof yet.
Temp swings can be above 10 degrees in the coldest periods for sure.
I doubt i'll even be able to get above 15degrees celsius in mid winter with the lights ON.

but for now it's warm enough for a while untill next winter.

Cold soil is going to have a bigger impact than air temperature.
Alright,
So you would you say it's worth to try and keep the soil warm with heath mats or nah?

.

Using the attic is rough, too cold in the winter, too hot in the summer.

Any other rooms free?

.
Currently no...
Next month half the place is being demolished and rebuilt.
maybe in a few months after we get to move into the new part of our house i will have a room with AC to make into my growroom.
untill then, the attic is the only place i have to do it.

Unless you can get your temps up, it might be worth waiting until you can. 15 deg C is too cold, IMO.

An electric heater inside the tent might work to bump your temps up to a range that will get your plants to the finish line.

You could also put foam insulation under your tent to keep your floor warm and maybe use plastic to build a larger tent around your grow tent to keep your heat inside. Or use foam board to build a temporary lung room around your tent.

Heatmats.
I've been vegging for years in a cold attic. Air Temperatures today are probably 8 - 9°C - I don't even bother to check the temps now.
Pots on heatmat keeps soil warm and plants still grow.
This is nice to hear from somebody with the actual experience.
Thanks alot.

Elevating pots, fabric pots won't insulate the cold and then stay cold. Watering an hour after the lights are on.
What are temps when the lights are on?
If they are healthy mature plants they can handle rough conditions.
If you are flowering then that is a different story.
You could wrap the tent in some foam board insulation and have the one at the tent opening removable.

Can you pull air that is conditioned during the winter months to your tent? And possibly vent out the roof of your house or soffit? Post carbon filter of course lol.

I’m finishing up a run soon in an unconditioned garage where I pull air from house (happens to be the hottest room in house so it’s actually helpful pulling out that air)

but anyway; do something to that effect and pair it with a little 200watt MyHeat and InkBird controller. I also built a rigid foam box around the tent itself. 1-1/2” foam.
