Coo Coo for coco! few questions

so i am restarting my first indoor grow and after reading through the "coco growers unite" thread, decided i wanted to try it. i screwed up my soil last time and this seems easier to control. its a small stealth grow so im not gonna do a hydro or a drip system, just straight up hand watering. i plan on getting Canna brand loose coco fiber and have a few questions

1. how often will i have to water if i put it in a 2 gallon pot?
2. should i start in a smaller container and then transplant?
3. should i add extra cal-mag?
4. do i need to get a ppm reader?

any help/advice is appreciated!

dude except for the first one they are pretty much yes/no questions. not asking for a play by play of what to do, just 4 things im not sure about. no one has to answer them all in one response...feel free to pick one.

thanks anyway

lol...

Wish I could help you, I too am about to start my first coco grow, so Im gathering any info/advice I can find.

I can tell you that from what ive heard about coco a ph meter is well worth it, as well as ppm/ec. I think ph is more important as long as you are going easy on the nutes. Coco looks like its easier to control than soil, but its also probly more neccessary to monitor ph alot more with coco because it can change quicker than soil. Thats my understanding dont quote me!

yea thats what i was thinking but a bunch of people on the coco thread talk about thier ppms and getting them right. i got a ph meter and ec meters are kinda expensive. im gonna be using the Fox Farms hydro trio so i figure aslong as i follow their feeding schedule(probably not full strength) i should be good.

are you gonna use a drip system, etc. or hand water?

thanks for the input!

1. twice a day
2. yes start in party cups then transplant
3. epsom salt is perfect to get over the mg needs
4. it would be good to have one. they have them on ebay for like $5.
My friend grows in coco and he is using 1 or 2 gal pots, and he has to water twice a day. This is why coco allows you to increase your bud size because you can nute SO much more often. Also with coco you will have to use epsom salt for magnesium with your water since coco has zero nute value. hope this helps. I've gone through grows with FF ocean forest and i'm looking forward to using coco.

thanks a lot bro! and thanks for answering all the questions, apparently more than one question is a big deal for some people haha. damn do you think i could get away with watering once a day, or is there something i could maybe mix in to help it stay moist longer? i was growing in ocean forest before this but got some kind of burn or deficiency and nothing i did could fix it. my one plant ended up male...huge bummer.

thanks again +rep!

Brilliant!

I am doing a drip system in coco coir soil (Organicare pure earth indoor aeration) it is like coco and fish meal and perlite and humus and stuff should be pretty good but I was wondering how often I will end up running my drip system pump and since I see 2 gal pots will probably be watered 2x a day I know my 1 gal pots may need more watering than I thought! I will be using 5 gal bucket for a res and have from eight to sixteen girls on the reservoir pump so if there is 16 gals of soil I may end up filling a res every day or two? crazyness!

I'm using 1 gph drip emitters so you know how long to run 1gph drip emitter for a good watering on a 1 gal? I was thinkin I'll probably end up running it for 3-5 minutes but dunno.

im in about a 16oz cup of 100% canna coco coir to start and i only have to water every other day EXACTLY. i dont know anything about what you're using but with a one gallon pot im sure you wont need to water everyday. i learned all about coco in the thread below and im sure you could get better answers there.

Good Luck!

Are you mixing your coco? mine is only aout 50-60% coco with the balance worm casting, pete moss and perlite. I water every 3 days or so. if you want to dial in your nutes use the ppm meter. But there's alot more to it then looking for a certin ppm reading. almost forgot I also add 1 tsp of garden lime per gal of soil mix. that helps balance your ph. I've used epsons salts. This grow I'm trying hydro nutes on a few of the plants to see how it works.
