Cooking stalks and leaves?

Hey guys, my first post, I'm a first time grower myself and been reading avidly the boards, love the website and how friendly everyone is! I saw another post wondering what to do with male plants, and I stumbled upon a wikipedia entry about cooking with pot, was wondering if anyone tried this particular method with male plants? Do they even produce THC? Or it has to be strictly female?

Here's the entry that interested me from wikipedia:

Another way to produce cannabutter is to boil a large pan of water and then add a block of butter and add cannabis trimmings (the leaves and stalks). The water stops the THC from being damaged by heat as the mixture will never reach over 100 C. After half an hour or so of boiling, sieve the mixture to remove the leaves and cool the liquid in a fridge. When it has cooled you are left with a potent layer of cannabutter on top of dirty water.
The flavor and color of the oil or butter used are changed depending on the method used.

The board seems to be full of experts, has anyone tried this? If I have to discard the male, maybe it's possible to get at least something out of it. Not to mention the emotional trauma from discarding something you've nurtured from a tiny little seed to a big proud green beauty.. (I love marijuana...)

(Sorry if I may have posted in the wrong forum, newb here...)

Ahh, I'm glad it's useful, wikipedia is an incredible source of information, i've been addicted to it for years.
I also find it kind of funny that they provide -detailed- instructions how to do it, most sites give you either rumours or very general info.
I hope I don't get any males (though odds are 50/50 :( ), it'll kill me to have to discard it away, I had no idea just how much one can get sooo attached to a plant :)
