Cooling question

Hello,

I am setting new grow room and I have very concrete question about cooling. I want to cool four 150W HPS, each one in cooltube. Now the cooling of bulbs will be separated from grow room. The reason why I want to do this, is that I want to add CO2 and use most of it. So the idea is simple, carbon dioxide will be automatically added to the grow box and the concentration will be maintained at 1500 ppm. There is no need for fresh air, because only CO2 is needed for photosynthesis. The air will be changed every 15-20 minutes though, because of oxygen buildup. The heat from bulbs will be hopefully removed via cooltube. My question is: if the cooltube setup wont be sufficient enough, how do I lower temperature inside closed box ? will fans help (without outside air) ? (my bet is that they wont, because the heat is energy of molecules and it cant just disappear)

Thanks for your advices and critique

you will def want some sort of fans in your grow box anyway just to mimic a natural breeze. But you are right, fans alone will not make a significant difference. How big is the space that you are growing in? I would say that if you are pulling the air cooled tubes into a separate room then you shouldn't have too much of a heat issue. One really cool thing that I have seen before is people putting bucket of ice water (mostly ice) at the bottom of the grow box and letting the cool air evaporate. one down fall is humidity so you would might have to evacuate a lil' sooner that every 20 minutes. Other than that the only thing that i can truly think of is a fresh air intake with AC? . . . .goodluck

If you are using HPS you definitely need a fan, those lights can get pretty hot. But you would want to concentrate more on your Exhaust Fan, and a decent Fan that is at least 150 CFM and up depending on the size of your grow space. I am not sure if you will use CFL lights at all to veg or flower , but I this blog , that shows you how to reduce your temp by using clear plastic sheet, you wrap that under your lights, not sure if that will work with HPS, because it may melt the HPS. Just a little something for your thought !! oh yeah here is the link
