it all depends on your ambient temp mate outside your room/tent always try to vent to the outside not in the same room i had a air cooled hood running a 600w hps with a 4" inline fan 175cfm was no way near enough so i got a 6" inline fan rated at 680cfm this worked but was loud you should pull the air out so
<vent to outside<fan<air cooled hood<carbon filter

this is a UK site but will give you a idea hope this helps mate

but if i have a cooltube thats 6" dont you need a 6" fan? and 6" ducting?
Actually had a lot of help from RIU community about this issue.

See this forum:: Stepping down ductwork

I went from an 8" cooltube down to a 4" inline fan. It was tough to find the 8 x 4 reducers but if you're only stepping down 6 to 4 or 8 to 6 it is quite easy to find reducers at home depot/lowes etc.

well i havent bought anything yet, so i would just buy a 6" cooltube with a 6" inline and 6" ducting..so i should hook up the fan to the cooltube and then ducting to the fan, so it would be cooltube>fan>ducting..is that right?..and do i need to use ducting on both sides of the cooltube or how does that work?..wouldnt the socket be in the way to attach ducting? sorry for all the questions im new at this.

You can find single wall duct step-downs at most air conditioning supply warehouses as well, and you can even stack them (like going from an 8 to a 6, then stack a 6 to 4) so you can adjust as needed. Hope it helps!
