Cooltube light height

Soz for such a newby question but ya can see by my other posts that's exactly what I am.

I have a 600w HPS in a cooltube how low can I put it. I hear I put my hand under it, if its not hot its ok? But with the cooltube I can put my hand about 3 inch from cooltube (6inch tube) and barely feel anything.

My buds are a lickel on a small side. Over the last few days I've lowered my light by about 15inch! to about 18inch.

growing in biobizz, 6th week (12/12) of an 8 weeker.

Wait. You were at 33 inches, lowered it 15 inches and now at 18 inches?
If you have good fans on the cool tube you should be able to get even closer.

Rule of thumb is to put your hand at the plant top and if after a couple minutes, its still ok, then the light is fine.

Try this, hang a thermometer from the tube. Keep lowering it until you get to about 80F. Theres your distance. (I'd add an inch or two for safety)

I know m8, I did have the light at 70cm (28inch as told by growshop), I then opened the ladies up like spiders but didnt correct the height.

My room is only 4x4x6ish. I had alot of heat problems at the start so I now have a 4inch input fan, 5 inch out, 1 large osculating fan, 1 small fixed, and the cooltube. I have a thermometer in the middle of one of my ladies (under cover) with all these fans etc still shows 30c (86).

Adding another 4inch output futher up the output/cooltube ducting tomorrow.

I have a spare veg light setup really cool runner would it help my buds to add this as well? ( Clutching at straws to try get something out of my first)

I run a 400 HPS with a air cooled hood and my top cola is about 3 inches and its fine.Also have an osolating fan blowing accross her.so far so good at 5 weeks into flowering.I feel it with the back of my hand and that seems to work

dont know where the hell the bloody grow shop gets 70cm from! Even with the 3 or 4 inch I lost when I "spidered" them wouldn't have been so bad if I wasnt so high up in the first place.

ya think the buds above will fill out or have I furbared it as far as this grows concerned?

yeah man u should leave the thermometer by the top of the plants and test how hot it gets when u have the lights that close

thats a very leafy strain what is it,you should get better bud growth when you put the light alot closer,you may want to give them an extra week to finish,if you know when they usually finish,if not just pay attention to the coloring and post pics riu can help.

I almost killed ‘em at the start by trying to feed while using biobizz full strength, Then had a load of heat problems, then some “N” problems in 4th/5th week of flower; which I thought was normal but ended up being way to too soon to have yellowing/dying, then the light height, plus I’m cursed!

I think the light height was the most harmful to my end crop.

Things I must say:

1: I’ve learned 10x more than I would have from a first time perfect
2: As a newby don’t use the allin; pre’nuted soils, like biobiss full or canna full, it’s easier to nute ya self cause at least ya know where you are before you start.. use the empty soil from canna/biobiss (if ya gona soil)

I think I have 3 chronics plus 1 AK47, or 3 AK47 plus 1 chronic, or 4 Chonics with one over nuted ( which ended up the best of the lot ( due to extra care i gave it).

the so called over nuted one was very grean with shiney leafs.

you also might want to change your feeding,it looks like they are still getting alot of N when they should be getting more p/k,but i may be wrong.

The "N" problem seemed to be lack of N, I had fan leaves all the way up sucking out and dying. I now give them 1/3 bioveg, 2/3 biobloom (plus canna boost). The leaves look yellowie but they haven't got any worse since. If it carried on the way it was they'd be dead by now.
