Couple of questions about shroom growing.

I've decided to partake in growing my own shrooms. It just looks like too much fun not to try it out.

I've decided to use the PF tek. Once the cakes are in the fruiting chamber, it says to give it a few hours of light per day. Coming from the cannabis world, I naturally want to put an HPS above it. How much light do I actually need. Can I drag the terr. out of the closet into the room with the light on?

Also does any part of the grow smell? It's going to be in my closet so I don't want my room smelling like fungi.

light dosnt matter too much, i come from the shroom world, and am just a visiting noob in the plant world.

you can use anything from x-mas lights to rope lights, to just a bulb in a socket.

i have a more advanced setup, with rope lights inside my fruiting chamber, hooked up to a thermostat, that turns off the lights if the internal temp hits 80*
and i also have a grow light outside the fruiting chamber that stays on pretty much 24/7

mushrooms dont really need light, they need light most, when you first birth the cakes from the jar, those first couple of days, light will help as a pinning trigger to make the cakes start producing fruits.
after that, its mostly so the fruits have a direction to grow in, and stretch out nice and clean and uniform.

My personal setup is also running a reptifogger ultrasonic humidifier, and a hygrotherm, humidity controller/thermostat. that keeps the fruiting chamber above 90% relitive humidity, and the temp in the 70's.

ill try to post a picture of my light set up.

wow thats some high tech shit zero.....im wanting to start growing shrooms too, i have the golden teacher spore syringes that have arrived a few weeks ago....now i just need to get all of the supplies but there is so many different ways to do it so im confused on which way to go with, can someone help me out on this and give me a list of all of the supplies i need

ok thanks time, but isn't grain like wbs or rye better than brown rice flour? and how many rubbermaid do i need 1 or 2? im confused on this part, and is it supposed to be clear or colored? also, pot you mean pressure cooker? whats a good pressure cooker to use that you guys use? Can all of this stuff be found at walmart? or most of it should i would think

Yeah, my setup is on the extreme highend side. your right, you dont need all that. any cfl light will work, and 12/12 will work. but 24/0 wont hurt either.

Grains such as wild bird seed, rye berrys, and popcorn. are more advanced methods, that take extra steps. because you must wait for the grains to be fully 100% colonized, (all white) and then break up and "spawn" the grain to a bulk substrate medium such as coir or verm. inside a tray or tub. then you must wait again for that tray or tub to become fully colonized before fruiting.

with the "BRF/PF tek" method, you wait for the jar to become fully colonized, then you "birth" the cake (slide it out of its jar) dunk it under water for 24 hours to hydrate it. and then place it in a humid plastic container that you mist and fan everyday.

to answer some questions. if your using the bulk grain method. you want your tub or tray (turkey pan, dish pan, or kitty litter tray) to not be see though. this is because if its see though. light will hit the sides, and cause most of the fruits to grow up the sides. if your doing the BRF/PF tek method the plastic totes can be clear if you want, (clear is probably better) because side pinning bulk substrate is not an issue.

Here are some of the best deals on pressure cookers. a pressure cooker is the best investment you can make when growing mushrooms. the bigger you can afford at the beginning the better. and it can mean the diffrence between success or failure. you want your "PC" to be able to reach 15psi, run it for 90 min after it rattles and hisses for the first time.

Some more pictures so u can see the diffrent methods.

hmm ok cool thanks, so for doing bulk with grain i just need 1 rubbermaid tub? and what is a good way to maintain temps and humidity for incubation and birthing? I dont want to have to open it and mist all of the time
