couple questions about our setup(were newbies)

Me and 2 buddies are setting up a small grow room. We watched the Mr. Green video and got some ideas.

The room is an 8'x8' room with 7' ceilings. We wrapped all of the walls and ceiling in black PVC plastic. We the split the room down the middle one side for growing the other for flowering. Based on the video we were going to use 2 4' 80 watt flourescents for growing clones and mothers. But in my research on this forum it seems most people are running halides or PC's for grow rooms. Are flourescents not enough if so I have a 4' 2x250watt HQI MH with 10k bulbs and 2 96watt PC with actinic bulbs in one fixture that I used to use for my fishtank. I guess what my question is is what is the preffered kelvin temp for grow outs?

In the flowering room we planned on using 1 400watt MH radium bulb. But in my research most people are using HPS with a lower K rating something more orange and red. Is MH ok for this stage and if so what temperature bulb?

For feeding we planned on a system like the one in the video, timers palstic tubs, watering three times a day through a drip in the grow room, and an eb/flow table with pellets in the flower room. In the video he used a timer and pump to fill the table, how long do you leave the table full of water, or does it stay full?

Sorry for all of the questions but were new and some of this info can make you second guess youre initial plan. Any advice or info maybe point me in the right direction as far as equipment etc. Thanks in advance and hopefully happy healthy growing.

Florescents are good for seedlings and can be used to veg, although you might be better off using 42w cfl's in the blue spectrum. 6500k (kelvin rating). Metal halides are supposed to be great for veg, and encourage faster growth.

if thats all you can get, that will be fine if you add some red fluros to help the red spectrum, but if you can get a 400-1000 watt hps that would be alot better , i'd recommend using two 400 or 600 watt hps's. you really want atleast two light sources to help the distribution of light.

it fills up long enough to wet the rockwool then it drains, its really good system, you could do the same thing with some pvc pipes.

1-I would use the floros 6500k for seedlings and clones.
2-for veg u want to use a mh
3-for flowering you definetly want hps i would get a 1000 watt or a 600 depending on how many plans u have.
4-being you first grow I would go with soil its more forgiving

if i was you id do everything that dr. green was doing cept use mylar instead of the black whatever and use an HPS for flowering... the floros are just fine for mothers and vegging... but if u already have a MH set up then use that and just get u an HPS for the flowering room... and ur set...

for the flood and drain table... u leave the pump on till it fills up and starts draining back into the reservoir... keep it running like that for 10-15 minutes and then turn the pump off... when u turn the pump off ALL the water in the tray will go back down into the reservoir... do that 2 or three times a day.. once when the lights come back on, after the dark period... once in the middle of the light period, and one last time an hour (give or take) b4 the lights get turned off... that is... if your using the flood and drain table for flowering like he does in the video.

You have a good sized room so I would use floro for clones and seedling, then use 400mh for veg, and then purchase a 600 hps or even better 1000hps from HTG supply because the 400 600 and 1000 are close to the same price, and since you got a good sized room I would get 1000 because it give off so much more light, take down the black plastic and paint your wall flat white or put some white plastic up like panda film, a 1000 w hps is under 300$ so if you and boys can throw in for that you'll be in like flinn and have some monsters growing in no time and make your money back first time. I got a 400mh/hps in my grow room but i wished i had got 600 or 1000 now espially because of the small price difference, learn from my mistake and go big the first time and you will be more then happy in the end and wont need to upgrade in the future High Tech Garden Supply

Hey guys thanks for all the info I appreciate it. Green Dreams we covered the walls in blacl plastic to seal the room the bottom hslf of the walls are wrapped in reflective Mylar to reflect light sorry I should have specified that. Now if I run the floros for seedlings and clones and my MH/PC setup for the grow outs and mothers should I still run 18/18 on both setups? If not what should I do? I think were gonna bite the bullet and buy a 1000w HPS what k bulb should we get or do they only come in one kelvin range? Trevoranderson420 these are my boys from kindergarten and weve been through some shit together so Im not worried but thanks for the heads up. Any recommendations on fans and vents and good online seed and equipment dealers online?

How many plants will you be growing?

You said you only have 7' for the height so you will need to (-) the growing system and the light to see how big you can grow these.

Like others have said,

YOu want to use a non heat light sytem in the seeding and cutting cycle. ie fluor.
For vegg the best to use is a higher k* ie 6500k 5500k 5000k, MH is the best-blue spec.
For flowering the best to use is a lower K* ie 2700k, HPS is the best-red spec.

Seeding, cutting, clones 24/0,
vegging 24/0 or 20/4 or 18/6 ppl say different things, I like 18/6 myself.
Flowering 12/12

Do you have a budget? If so how much? what do you want to get out of your set-up?

The more light you can give them the bigger they will get.

I would go with soil as a new grower. It is so much more forgiveable. and if money was not a big issue I would buy two 600w HPS/Mh systems for the flowering area or one 1000w system with a light mover. You will need a cannfilter or something for smell, you will need air in and out.

As far as a budget probably $600 but that can always change depending on the other guys Im willing to spend more if I have to. Why is soil so much more forgiving? We plan on automating the entire lighting and watering system and were planning on using 1x1 rock wool cubes for seedling and clones, then transplant to larger 4x4 rock wool cubes the cubes will be watered 3 times a day through a drip system during the vegetative stage. The flowering stage we planned on a eb/flow system filling the tray with hydroton and transplanting the 4x4 cubes into this watering three times a day. Everything on timers so pretty routine I would think.
