Covering windows without arousing suspicion

dont worry if your mates a noob im sure he will grow out of it so to say. though you should make him aware of his problem and help him change it. its only going to attract attention to him and then if worst comes worst possibly you.

not saying your mates a dog (a dobber) but ya never know these days... pigs can make all kinds of bogus threats and not too many people seem to be willing to tell keep there mouth shut these days and cop there fuck up sweet.
Sadly, my friend isnt a noob, he just doesnt think. He does things on impulse.

Example: Many years ago, he and i had an outdoor grow. He and I were trimming some ripe plants at the spot when we heard someone coming through the woods towards our grow. My friend went out to confront the guy and chase him off. I listened to the conversation and it went like this:

Intruder: "Hey, Im sort of lost, what are you doing in here?"

My friend: "I'm hunting snakes"

Hunting fucking snakes? Who the hell goes deep in the forest to 'hunt snakes'?

We had already discussed what to say in this type of situation: "I live out here, Im homeless, please leave"

Needless to say, the guy didnt believe his weird story. After the guy left I snuck after him and followed him and watched him hide out by the road. Obviously he suspected something and he was going to wait us out.

My friend and I decided to pretend that we left and made sure he saw us go, then we snuck back and low and behold, the guy was tromping through the woods back to our spot. We ran in and confronted him. We were forced to yank everything, move it far away and finished trimming it there.

SOme of the plants werent ripe and we took a loss on them.

The guy is just impulsive, period. IQ wise he is quite intelligent.

He tries too hard to avoid suspicion and ends up drawing attention to himself because he doesnt stop to think first, he just reacts. Ive talked to him about this many times. Shrug.

i would just put up cheap simple blinds and then duct tape cardboard around the window. seriously? you think your neibors teens are peeking in your basement windows? dont give them any reason to suspect anything and they wont be looking in your basement. you sound a lil paranoid, man, smoke another j and relax
Yes, indeed I am a little overly cautious. I just want it to look natural. The blinds idea sounds the best thus far.

This is a really good idea. The problem I have with curtains is that they should have some light filtering through them to look realistic, whereas miniblinds block out everything. Awesome.
your basement is unfinished right? so you use it for storage, so if you had curtains up and there is no light filtering through it, that shouldn't matter because you would rarely be down in your basement unless you were to get something down there, the only time you would see the lights on all the time in someone basement is if they had it finished and someone was living down there, I don't think anyone of your neighbors are watching your basement windows that closely if there are then you should just move from there

if you plan on using blinds just make sure you have them closed in the right direction because if they are in the wrong direction when someone walks by you will be able to see thru the blinds and see the wood you use to board up the other side of the window

One thing people should keep in mind, is that just because u don't care what your neighbors windows look like or what their doing around their house ,doesn't mean your neighbors aren't VERY interested in your goings on. Some people are just noisy or bored or whatever. Anything grow related, I do within sight of my neighbors I do with the feeling they are watching my every move. Paranoid? Careful? Whatever you want to call it, I sleep better at night.

I believe that making up weird stories draws attention.

I have a friend that always offers some weird explanation for things. Him and I were at the hardware store and he was buying a 250 watt HPS bulb in the lighting section and a worker was answering questions. Out of the blue my friend told the guy, "Its for my sons snake tank". It sounded so stupid, and it was completely random and out of the blue. The guy looked at him like he was crazy and by the look on the guys face, I could tell he didnt believe him.

Once we were going out to his growroom in his garage and he said (intentionally loudly so his neighbors would hear it) "Yeah, I want to show you that new ice chest I bought". It just sounded phoney and idiotic. He does it on impulse trying not to be suspicious and ends up making people suspicious.
hahahahah seriously I hate people like that. My cousin is like that and it just ends up making him look more suspicious.

your neighbors aren't worried about what you do with your basement windows. are you concerned with theirs? think about it
no

but

A: people are not trusting, they see all your windows boarded up in the basement, they'll get suspisous. it's human nature to try and second guess what's going on behind that curtain.

B: you leave it, they see cannabis being grown, potentially screwed.

just saying to hell with it, and doing whateer works, is not a clever aproach in any way.

We have like 4 windows in our basement....we just moved in...we live in a 4-season climate so it helps to keep the cold out....2 of the windows when we got here had a hazey-clearlike plastic over them...the plastic was stapled to the frame....this was obviously done for insulation I believe....

So I am going to get some more plastic to staple over the last 2 windows.

...Tell people your into photography and you use it as your dark room.
Where you've been living in last decade? Chemical photography is long DEAD.

The best are blinds with extra light proof protective cover from inside the room.

That should look normal for the most noisy neighboors.
I was growing African Violets by the window, supplementing natural light with red&blue small LED bulbs some times, one of my neighbors living about 300 feet from my house asked my wife "what is this red light in your window" ?

You never know how noisy your neighboors are and what may trigger their interest in you and arouse their suspicion.

NEVER let your guard down!

Nothing wrong with being cautious. I just staple covers to my windows. I live in the country so not really anyone sees but eventually I'll fix it cause it does look obvious from the outside I think.... But that's only because I know what's in there lol.

Just throw some panda poly over the bitch and call it a day. Use the black side; it'll just look dark in there. If your neighbor snoops around your basement windows maybe they oughtta be covered anyways, eh?

I would think the piece of plywood leaning against the window on the outside was more suspicious than just having curtains closed up on the inside.

it depends on the window type

if it is a solid pane of glass u are little fucked ..............but if it is one of those old windows with 6 pannels of glass then golden ( i have that kind)

it is really simple u will break out one of the pannels of glass that leaves u like a 5x5 inch area...............u buy one of those under eve bathroom vent covers ....then get a peice of wood make it to the size of the glass pannel u broke out .......then cut a hole in it and put in the vent cover (spray paint it black ) ..............fit it into tha pannel and tape it in hook in the ducting to the vent point then cover the windows so it is always black (with it painted black u can not see it unless u are with in 5/10 feet of it with direct light on it

the finall part is to plant something stinky or thorny infront of it then u are 100% covered

the other choice is to tie into the ducting for venting your drier ..........hooking into the venting for the sewer gas.............or venting up a chimme

this is what my buddy did .............part of his place is under ground he dug out part of the outside wall and then layed a trench ........put a hole in the cinderblock wall for a venting point from his house out ran 12 inch pipe as ductiing to the middle of yard where has this garden ...........in the center is a bird bath the base of the bird bath was hollowed out and sits on top of the venting point
