I live in the Mojave so I want mine to be close to bearing when they go out usually between 3/15 to 4/15. I learned last year that from about mid June to Mid August the temps are so hot they won't bear. So if I put them out large enough I can hopefully get a few early and then get another crop before they freeze. But who knows, the weather has been a tad unpredictable.
If I put them in the Greenhouse they would never freeze. I think they need to freeze.
I don't remember. I grew up in Huntington Beach and we had huge strawberry farms that planted in February if I remember right. It's been awhile.
