everyone's entitled to their opinion. i trust my own since i do it for a living. if you could do plywood then everyone's basement would be made out of it. i've never been in a basement made out of plywood.

If grandma doesnt know then dont grow. One plant on the property in the right state can have grandma homeless broke and in jail.

Ummm if you do this for a living you've surly heard of wooded basement walls. It's called permanent wood foundation. We use plywood all the time, that's why I chimed in on this post.

Testing has shown it buried for 35 years with slight rot. I doubt this guy is going to have his box buried for more than a few years.

if you curious about expanding your mind on engineered wood products I would be glad to send you some great information,

On the wood rotting thing. As a carpenter yes you can get treated lumber and plywood. The plywood if in the soil will rot eventually and really not that long of time. You could encapsulate it much as your would on a boat and use marine grade treated and it could last a decade. The question on posts and rotting is answered in yes things like 4x4 s are treated and then go into the ground but the part in the ground is surrounded by concrete slowing the rot of the wood. If you put just a treat post in soil it will rot. Just like when you lay your wolmanized sil plates down they are on concrete and made to last for decades but if to much moisture comes in they rot out too..

slimj.....Im not sure what you mean as basements can not have wood only subterrainean walls as it will not pass code, will not last, will fail, and can not be made structurally strong enough. Yes inside you finish basements in wood but no earth to material contact. Anyone who would say you can have a wood only subterrainiean foundation or footer should never be hired to buid for you as they are clueless.

Haha that's funny! Watch this video it's old but we still build (the major home builder I work for) 1,000's of home with wood basements every year.

They rot in about 15-20 years.
precisely
If you put just a treat post in soil it will rot.
what my builder buddies tell me is that encapsulated posts actually hold water speeding up the rotting process.

now they dig their hole and pour a pad in the bottom, sitting the post on it. Backfill with gravel, allowing the water to get away.....supposedly makes em last longer.

i'm in hvac and don't build many pole barns anymore.

i'm good, thanks. if you are seriously bringing up pwf in this conversation then i'm definitely gonna trust my experience and gut. 35 years?...lmao.

my last 3 projects. i actually build homes. i don't sit around inventing impractical ways to turn rat farts into a clean energy source.

If you are going to put that grow box underground then I would hire a full-time sniper to sit in a nearby tree to pick anyone off that comes near it.....

j/k...I do like the one poster's idea about a shed. Lot's of space in there...Lot's of possibilities, and no sniper needed.
