Crunky's CFL/LED Scrog!

Nope, haven't used HID at all. I'm not familiar with any of the high power bulbs. This grow is only my second ever so yeah :P either way I'm content. And I'm not totally sure about it being slower..I've seen considerable growth day-to-day with these plants while they were in veg. Not really the same with flower though. I'm assuming this was due to a few things. a) The screen I'm using, they did try to outgrow it but just tuckin them under the wires kept them from reaching up to the bulbs. I don't have the luxury of seeing my girls everyday, but every few days I do get to see them, I always see growth(and more recently bud development). b) I'm fairly certain that along with genetics, the lights helped keep them short. I'm using 4 26 cool white CFLs in there as well as the big 4 42 warm whites. I think coupled with the blue in the LEDs, it has helped to keep these plants short and contained in the screen.

So all in all I don't think this is quite as effective as hps, but I definitely think they're something to be proud of :)

Day 34 today:

Here's some pics. The bushy plant has shown tons of orange hairs. I'm assuming this is a genetic trait, the other plant's hairs are all white.

Lowered the lights and fan so they get more intense light. CFLs prolly only a couple inches from the tops of the buds. I have noticed they have stopped growing upwards and are focusing on the buds. Pictures will be a little tough from here on out, but I think the end product will justify the decision :)
I haven't seen any increase in temperature and the fan is blowing directly on the tops of the plants. I'm betting this will make a huge difference in a few weeks when they fatten up.

It appears there aren't as many crystals as I've seen on other plants.

But I actually resorted to smoking some of the dead fallen leaves, and even without having crystals on them I got semi stoned so I figure it'll be good bud once it fattens up and ripens :)

Here's some pics.

Yeah they still have a while to go I bet they start frosting up pretty soon. Sure look good in the pics.

Yeah I'm thinking a few more weeks and they'll be exactly the way I want them to ;)

Thanks, I definitely agree!!

I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Day #38. RIU been screwy for me so I haven't been able to post until today.

They are WAYY more citrus smelling with the lights lowered. It's much more pungent that it was before. Not seeing any signs of too much heat so I think it's perfect. Smells like tangerines or oranges or nectarines maybe even. Whatever it is, it smells like citrus fruit and the buds are pretty solid, even before really filling out.

Here's the glory shots ;)

have you tried to veg with your led's. i tried it with a ufo by itself for several weeks and it sucked. so finally i took the ufo out and put in my fishtank light and the plant blew up. you can see the difference in the pics. i just re-added the ufo tonight to see how it does on flowering. that may be a hole different story. i still have my 150 hps running. but im thinkin if it works like they say on the hightimes website, i should have a noticable difference. looks like your plants are doin great. keep it up. i will be keepin tabs on your new led pannel

Yes, initially I had the 4 LED panels and like 6x 26w CFLs. So at that point it was a little under 200 watts for veg.

I have noticed the technology in UFOs is increasing pretty well. Is your UFO one of the originals or one of the newer models? I think you should see a notable difference if the UFO has the correct spectrums and in the correct amounts. I'm not too fond of the UFO units because once the fans go you're pretty much screwed. Unless of course you have some kind of replacement fan or you have a limited warranty on the unit.

Thanks for the kind words :)

the earlier hidhut ufos had 80 red and 10 blue. the newer ones like i have have 70 red and 20 blue. and i liked this particular one because it was the only one i could find test results for. (hightimes.com) but then again mine is a dual spectrum and i know there are tri and quads out there. so who knows. i know i don't have the cash flow to test em all out, that for sure. and actually i have already noticed the flowers are starting to face the Ufo. hmmmmmm. this could turn out pretty interesting.

Huh, sounds like it! Care to post a pic or two? I hear ya with the cash flow thing though, that's for sure. I think if anyone's going to purchase a UFO these days, it should be one of those high output ones that use mostly white LEDs. They cover more spectrums for the same wattage. Can't go wrong with that at all. And of course because it covers more wavelengths they advertise it with higher lumens but meh. I think it's worth it.

I think soon the only LEDs that won't be white are the farreds(IR) and the dark blues to violets(UV). Everything in between is covered with either cool, neutral, or warm white LEDS.

I know you are only a few days behind my grow, do you know how long you plan to have them flower or just gonna let them go as long as they need? When I started my current grow I set a 10 week flower window. They actually seem to be ahead of that schedule but I plan to keep the 10 week date. I may adjust future grows though if they seem to finish around the 9 or even 8 week mark that way I can get more grows in! :)

Well I have to have the whole setup dismantled my the first of July, but other than that I plan on letting them go as long as they need. I want them to be fully matured if possible. I'm thinking the indica dom is a 9 week strain and I'm trying to get my buddy to get me another clone of it, it's a really aggressive grower. I gave my buddy some beans and the plant he grew out..well it's about 3 feet tall right now, in a 5 gal bucket. I gave him a clone from this plant and it's in a 2 gal pot and it's just as tall as the big one. It has very nice phenos, orange hairs, citrus like flavor, and like I said really aggressive grower. The sativa dom on the other hand is a VERY dense plant, doesn't appear to have the same orange hair pheno. At least it's not showing yet if it is.

I think the indica dom will finish way before deadline but the sativa dom may need to be plucked a tad early(won't mind since I like soaring highs).

I think at this point it will just be finish when they're ready, if deadline comes then it comes, just the way it is. I'm so pumped for my next grow though!

LOL, I feel the same way. I want the one in the cab to be hanging already so I can move the next ones in! Seems like there are always new ideas or errors we make that we want to correct in "the next one".

You're correct there I feel there's soo much room for improvement even without CO2 and all the fancy stuff. There's always bigger and better, just gotta use some brainpower. ;)

Half of me wants to start a second cabinet so I can have a harvest every 4-5 weeks. If I acutually NEEDED that much I would do it in a heartbeat. At this point I think we are going to have more than we need with just the one grow!

Haha, if that pans out chainseeker, I'd like to see it ;)

Update here for everyone: Day #41: The buds appear to keep growing hairs, it's crazy! Starting to resin up good as well.

Here's pics for you all.

Thanks :) I think in a couple weeks I'm going to harvest the top of the left plant, and let the bottom buds get more light, so they'll hopefully fatten up as well.

Glad to have you on board

Day#48:

A little disappointed they haven't started filling out like crazy, should I wait longer or chop soon??

Everything is looking good! Gotta be patient, I would say at least 2 weeks more. I harvested my first time at 8 weeks and then the second time was at 9 weeks and there was a big difference in the fullness of the buds. That's why I have my current grow planned to go 10 weeks. Better to be a week too long, than a week too soon!
