Cure problem

I got my jar out tonight (yes, sadly I only got a jar full of bud for one plant) to burp it and there was no sweat whatsoever. Is this a bad thing? How will it cure properly with no moisture? I waited an extra couple days like was suggested before putting in jars but now I think I waited too long. Suggestions?

Was the bud dried before you bottled it? Is it brittle dry now? If it is just take a piece of apple or orange peel and put it in the bottle. You can also moisten a q-tip qnd break the end off and drop it inside instead. That should replenish enoug moisture within a day or two to allow you to fully cure.

The weed was just done drying out for 6 days. I just threw the q tip in there, how long should I wait before burping it again?

If you bend your stem and it cracks a little your good to go, if they fully snap in half you've over dried !

thats the method I use it hasn't failed me yet.

Better to be too dry than too wet.

If it is dried, then just burp it once a day for about 30 minutes.
If it is a little wet, burp it for longer.

dont go by the exact days on those guides or suggestions, your environment will be different from the writers. for example, right now im drying a plant its maybe 1.5 oz when dried, my relative temp is 80 and 40% humidity. in my case since its hotter than optimal and with smaller buds it will dry faster than people suggest. you have to read the buds when theyre drying just like when the plant was alive. since you have a small harvest drying it out like people suggest for 6 days might be too much depending on the environment. im planning on drying mine for at most 4 days then they go in jars to cure. your buds might be overly dry.

I agree with the hygrometer method, that's your best way to know the moisture content of your buds, I strive for 55% humidity.

If you wanna raise the rh and get some curing going huff or exhale into the jar and seal it. The moisture of your breath will raise the rh and if not to far gone the co2 will feed the curing process

Thanks Kite High! yeah the same bud measured at .55 of an ounce this evening. It is drying too fast IMO to be in the jar. Thanks for the tip, just gave a good ol exhale in the jar with my hand cupped around for a seal. Shook it up a little too. Moisture is better after I added 2 ph'd soaked q tips (just the tips) and left it alone for several hours. Seems to be mellowing an awful lot. Got a better high when it was fresh. Hope that changes :(

alas there is a second plant..and a third, fourth...I shall overcome LMAO

Haha that's the way to go about it, my very first harvest tasted like grass I'm sure you'll do better than I did, good luck!

Hmmmm....the high should get better w the cure....my weed seems twice as potent after two/three weeks curing.....to actually cure ur buds u want em a little moist when u begin jarring....the moisture and oxygen feeds the bacteria that break down the chlorophyll in the curing process...if u put bud thats too dry in the jar to cure ur not curing....ur aging....watch one of the latest weed nerd episodes and kyle kushman explains the curing process and whats happening chemically making the chronic more potent...."tcs corner with kyle kushman".....Ive never bent a stem in my life to chk dryness....depending on bud size 3-5days hanging in 75degree room 50% humidity...til crisp on outside....then sealed in brown bags for a day...out for a day....bk in for a day....each time u take it in and out ur drawing the moisture from the center of the bud outward...two days of brown bags before any of my buds see a jar....then its 12hours in jar out for an hour...back in and repeat process till ur bud is cured to ur liking. ...I like mine crumbly but the way I cure it its not dry crumbly. ..crumbly but not dry...once u get curing down u can appreciate e ur bud so much more....its a big part of the growing process and its what will seperate ur weed from others on quality.....

Hi rosey. I'm at five months curing right now. IMO curing is the most important part of the entire grow.

Here is how I do it. https://www.rollitup.org/harvesting-curing/514841-perfect-cure-every-time.html

The small $10 hydrometers are a must to know what's going on in your jars.

Only thing I add to this process is the Boveda humidity packs. They take all the guess work out and produce perfectly cured bud that I can back with personal experience.

Unfortunately, once the bud reaches 55 percent humidity the curing process stops no matter what you do.

Good luck and congratulations on your harvest!

I have never had "sweat" in my jars. Never, ever, ever. If you have sweat in your jars, your bud wasn't ready to be put in jars.

I like to use the 69% (I think) Boveda gel packets. They maintain humidity.

Takes a little longer but works fine. Don't have any right now to check the %.

I didn't get sweating either, and my rh was measuring up to 70% cure is fine though, nothing to worry about if your stems are not snapping. I use the bovida 62% humidipaks and a hygrometer to be sure.

I have read anything below 55% RH will start to impede the cure process, thus many prefer to keep it up around 58% to allow for a margin of error.

personally I prefer a moister smoke, around 62 to 65%.....which by coincidence is where most cigar smokers typically maintain the RH in their humidors

BTW: cigar shops/websites have all sorts of products to help maintain desirable RH levels (passive or active) and of course hygrometers, calibration kits/salt test
