did you go straight to curing? dry then cure. leaving it open for 6 hrs is fine especially if you haven't been opening it for a few mins twice a day.

I go by smell, I hang dry for a week or two (depending on time of year) then I jar, as soon as the smell goes to a "wet grass" or "hay" smell I remove from jar and put in a large paper bag, when they smell good again I go back to jar.
i do this until the smell stays the same in the jar.

Follow your nose, it works great for me.

I air-dry my bud on filters for the first 36-48 hours. That is the drying stage of drying/curing when 90+% of the moisture is removed. When nearly dry I put the bud into a sealable glass jar and leave it overnight. By sealing the jar we even out the remaining moisture. Instead of crunchy small buds and soggy big buds - all the sealed product is evenly dry. If you think it is still too damp, leave the jar open and unsealed for 12-24 hours. Seal again over night and check the next morning. Good luck, works 4 me, BigSteve.

Leave buds on stems to hang upside down fora week or so first. Stems will dry up quick and start sucking moisture outta the bud. Then cure :) The hardest part is almost done. Fuck drying and curing and just staring at it for weeks on hand. THE WORST :P
