Custom led light diy

I think there's a case for adding some high red, 650-660 nm, to white COBs though. The COBs have plenty of blue and green but are deficient in red. I supplement 4000k COBs with 13w red CFLs. Just simpler than trying to add red LEDs and works well enough for me to notice improved growth. The spectrum of the red CFLs is right around 660.

dont worry im intersted in the process i can only learn by doing at the end of the day im not going to spend alot of money on the scale of things and its all fun :) ive designed it to allow for the addition of some better cobs etc if i need to . at this stage the best efficincy isnt realy what im aim ing for im just aiming to build a light that will grow plants and get it finnished i can then look at getting better efficency and add cobs perhaps cree cxa3590 or remove leds if needed. i designed and built my undercurrent system and that experience was intersting too haha

was a HLG-100H-36A but they are sending me a HLG-100H-36B that has a dimming lead

i think i can still dimm the other one too if i wanted but with a standard dimmer on the wire
there both 95.4W 36V 2.65A so can run cobs at an ok level if i wanted :)

im thinking about using fiberglass and resin box design for this and mayby use a vac bagging techneque , perhapes sink my lenses whan they arrive into the fiber glass shell would shed some weight massively

i also just saw this to control any fans i might be useing :
NZXT Sentry LX Double Deck LCD Meter

Complete Control: 5 Temperature Probes keep tabs on all areas of your system while the 5 Fan controllers adjust the fans' RPM speed

CCL Code: CAS9112
Mnfr Code:
SEN-001LX

Not long yet until I will start this build had to swap some ldd drivers as they sent the wrong ones !

I found today however in staples some massive 125l square buckets trunks Black and with wheels and with a sealable lid for only £15 each they would be ideal for a undercurrent hydroponic or rdwc system you can get 2 plants in each I recon

Hey justsmokedope,
I hope your build is going well. I recently got some samples of some lenses for single diodes, I have various ones with 60 degree and 90 degree lenses, they fit over my single 5w diodes, some are not worth using because they are diffuser types but they are all the same size. If you wanted to try any to see if they fit I will gladly chuck a couple in an envelope and post them to a PO box or address of someone you trust to send them on to you, obviously I would not ask your real address. Anyway they cost like 9 cents or something daft, if you feel you want to try any for size i will send you a couple for free since its the cost of a stamp, which is nothing within the same country. If you like them I will send you the link of where I am getting them. I paid $30 for the postage which I think is minimum charge for DHL. The samples they didn't charge me for. I got 2 of each type that I thought may be useful. If your interested just give me a PM.
The same goes for you @Will Thayer, if they would fit your needs.
I can post some photos and some dimensions if wanted

The diodes I have are just 5w epileds described as 42mil on star pcb but the lenses fit over the diode. I may or may not use the epileds but that's another thread!! If they are of use to either of you then giz a shout. As I say, no charge!

Take it easy.

Mr. Webster, Thank you for your kind offer. I am OK for the moment. I am grateful that you have drawn my attention to this thread as well.
It is nice to have a group of U.K. types doing their thing and sharing links. Finding components at a good price seems harder here.

@justsmokedope I am looking forward to following your progress. Please keep us updated. I was ridiculed when I first started using Himalayan yak semen as a bloom booster. Nobody laughs at me now.

It is just the extraction that is a real bugger.

Speaking of links we should compile a list of all the suppliers we find for Europeans to use. I found these folks in Germany last night. http://www.ledrise.com
Loads of cool stuff at fairly decent prices.

Edit* I was just about to order some Oslon SSL hyper reds from the link above and their shipping rate to the U.K. is silly. £22 for postage germany to the U.K.
Better postage from these chaps www.led-tech.de

Cheers,
Will

the MW SE Power supply at 36v will underdrive most of your LDD drivers. Most of your LDD drivers are 52V and a 48v would e more efficient. Get a small power supply for the 36v LDD drivers. You need to size your MW power supply by how many watts you want to drive, at which voltage. Tee LDD driver will establish the constant current for that channel. you can mix channels with different current for different led needs. For instance 36 3w leds need 108 watts. so if you have four channels of 108 watts you need a four watt power supply. The largest is 350w so you will need two SE-350-48 power suppliers to drive four channels of 36-3w leds. 432 watts of leds is not much. I would recommend adding some high power CoB's to the mix not just 3950, but maybe less expensive ones to add umoles to your light, which the plants needs most to grow.

For the driver boards, coralux is a put it together yourself product. you buy the board and parts and put it together yourself. I bought mine directly from coralux and it works great. the ones from rapidleds are more expensive, but if you do not want to diy, that is an option. peace
