Cut the Crown

Just a quick couple of questions. im about to start my 2nd crop and a friend has advised me to cut the crown (main stem that gorws in the middle) when you are about to flower. This then causes the plant to focus and feed the plant more evenly creating a high yeild. He said to cut it low so there is only about 10 branches coming off the main steam.

Is this true? Has anyone heard this method? First time for me thats for sure i heard if u cut the main crown the plant dies. Geez so many myths.

Help would be highly appricated. Thanks guys
