Cutter Electronics: Complete DIY COB kits

My ideal module is four CXB3590 36V driven by the HLG-240H-C1750, with pots to range from 700mA - 1750mA, usually at about 1050mA. Or the classic HLG-185-C1400, of course.

If another driver does the same job just as well then I'm not a zealot, just looking for what works.
What kind of dimmer is this? Forgive me...

100K potentiameter, I believe. My understanding is that this is good for the 200W meanwell driver, although I'm not sure if it's good for the 250W meanwell driver. Cutter bundles a dimmer with the mau5 kit.

@flat9 & @Airwalker16 I am finalizing the drawings right now as I type (#multitasker).

I have conferred with @robincnn & @Greengenes707 on the geometry and hole spacing of their future offerings. This one bracket will fit Cutter, Northern Grow Lights, Pacific Light Concepts, and Arctic Alpine 64 PLUS.

I have a waterjet machine booked from 6p to 10p tonight to cut the first prototypes. Ill try 0.063" 6061 aluminum first, then 0.090 , attempting to keep material costs as low as possible without sacrificing rigidity. We are talking just a few USD per bracket for the material. Waterjet costs me $2 per min of abrasive pump run time only. I'll have a better idea of cost per bracket after tonight & Ill keep you guys posted.

Once the first brackets are done, ill start an Open Source thread so other business owners (like those mentioned above) can comment and contribute outside of this thread.

BTW I should order dimmers in advance, where should I get them? Will I need a potentiometer?

No need buying 6061t6 sheet, you're paying a huge premium for this grade. I would suggest you buy utility grade which typically use grades 1100, 3003 or 5052. These are softer formable alloys. You will be able to design and use a thicker material for a cheaper cost vs 6061. I would think .090-.100 would be plenty if not overkill in utility grade. Extrusions are different as they are typically made of 6061 or 6063, extruded products are the cheapest route pending configurations. 1100 is one of the purest alloys, great for thermal conductivity but soft but great for heatsinks.stick with 3000 or 5000 grade alloys. A lot of towns have places called metal supermarkets etc for small qty, local srap yards are good also.

I'd imagine so, but still DE HPS are no joke paired with a good reflector.

Also keep in mind this may be strain dependant as well. One thing I wonder about is if we have unintentionally been breading cannabis that responds better to HPS given that it was used so long and yield is a major motivating factor in propagating a strain.

Anyway, if you managed to do this, that'd be pretty incredible. So many interesting experiments one can conduct!
This is exactly what was seen when a mfr (illumitex?) worked with some larger med warehouse grows in NV.

some strains did better than others under LEDs

Yes I hope to start shipping late this week, Led driver company drifted on their promised delivery date but they are supposed to ship out of China today, fingers crossed, apologies to one and all. I am as keen as you guys are to see how this all pans out

Its all good brother. there are a lot of RIU members working behind the scenes on various projects. Often there is a several month delay on publishing ideas and offerings while nailing down suppliers , CAD drawings, and pricing.

Guess work is not necessary when you use a FLIR camera to look at Tc. Cutter has some images of a 50w cxb running on these in a stagnant test environment. We just need to see how much lower the Tc is in a real world grow room with circulation fans assisting these pins.

I agree with @Rahz reflectors are cheap now. $4 for LEDILS , $1 for knockoffs. Buy them, measure the output for your application, then use them or dont. but at least you have the option and they are super easy to remove and clean.

what are my thoughts about uniform spread and PPFD in a 4x4? have you seen my thread or youtube channel, I have just about the most uniform spread around, lol. 850ppfd , 1.7-1.9 gpw runs.

a lot of those growerhouse tests cover tiny Garbage led lights with a tiny fixture footprint. thats why we build our own, fo dat spread baby.

@flat9 I appreciate your careful planning and scientific look at PPFD and light spread. But once a grower gets out from behind the calculator and the computer. You quickly realize all you need to do is buy some COBs, slap them on a heatsink and you can grow the dank pretty easily. I dont even own a PAR meter.

Damn man. I can't get it trough my head, how the he'll you keep the temps down with that many leds. I was thinking for a 4x4 to build 3 heatsinks 4 cob's each + 1400 MW but after I made one I just drop the project. I can make fry eggs on that shit...

Mau5 runs his at 700 u choose 1400 doubling the heat load
put some fans on the unit
