Hi All,
I've been out of the game for a while but with the recent changes in legislation in my state, it's time to get back on the horse.
It didn't take long to figure out that if you're trying to run an efficient, high lumen/watt system and don't mind some DIY, COB LEDs are the way to go. I just ordered 8 CXB3590s (5-3500K and 3-6500K) and will be running them at 1400 mA using 2 HLG-185H-C1400Bs. I also have 8 reflectors (KB-D82-90RF) similar to the Angelina reflectors that Robin tested in his Optics experiment (https://www.rollitup.org/t/lens-and-reflector-optics-for-cob.893660/). Huge props to him for this research.
I've got a 4x6 grow area with the potential to easily expand to 4x8 that will be lined with either panda film or mylar. I'll start with 12 plants during veg of which 6 will go to flower and 6 will remain in veg. I plan to either SCROG or do some agressive tying down to spread these plants out. I plan to actively cool these light arrays once they're built and have based the original size of the 5.88"x38" sink on GrowMau5's youtube series. Now on to my question:
What's the most efficient shape for a heat sink configuration that would distribute the light from these 8 COBs? I want to maximize the PPFD in the grow area and minimize the amount of light on the periphery.
Here are 3 ideas I have for hanging light fixtures. The large boxes are heat sinks and the small boxes are COBs. I would love to hear some feedback from growers who've done this kind of work before. This is assuming that each heat sink piece has the same surface area (similar fin size). Much appreciated.
