Dave's First LED Grow Using Area 51

That's looking like at least as much light as the cfls put out, I can't wait to see them in full stride with the reds on.
The light is a LOT more intense than my previous collection of T5's and CFL's combined. And the wavelengths are more targeted for stimulating plant growth.

It's hard to tell light intensity from photos because the camera adjusts to it. But you can tell when you first open the cabinet door before your eyes adjust.

I hung up a crossbar on the ceiling of my cabinet today:

Now there's a lot less stress on the ropes and I can raise the lights up higher. Previously, the ropes were hung on those hooks way out at the sides. (In know that I need to replace that PVC elbow that's jammed against the right side of the bar... with something more secure. Work in progress.)

I also built the frame for a SCROG screen:

It might look familiar to fans of Brother Dawg. I copied it shamelessly from his setup (also the crossbar). I still need to glue some of the pipes together and put a screen on top, but it's getting there. I want to be able to slide the whole plant, SCROG and all, out of the cabinet even when the plant is full grown, so that I can replace the res with a clean one at every water change. I think this will work.

Look at that fuckin plant! Ain't she gorgeous? Thanks to everyone's advice here and my Area 51 light, she looks like the healthiest plant so far that I've ever grown. I hope she stays this healthy through the rest of the grow.

Changed the water last night. This is how I'm taking out the res to clean it:

Didn't see any roots growing out of bottom of the bucket yet:

Decided to FIM the top right here:

The nodes are still tight as can be:

Still growing extremely healthy:

Leaves really drooped during the course of the day today. I had the watering timer set to water every hour, which appears to be too much -- making the leaves droop like this. So I set it back to water only every 2 hours. Tomorrow she should be holding her leaves up again.

She's still been growing good regardless:

Your set up keeps getting better by the day, sir.
The young lady is looking good so far.
I see you noticed some of my recent changes, Karma. I had to tape some of the power cords to the wall so that my SCROG frame can pass freely into and out of the cabinet. And I shortened the Pampers box for the same reason. I'll have the SCROG done shortly. Just have to put the screen on top of it now. This is all a huge improvement over my previous setups. I learned a lot from Mr Dawg and the rest of you guys.

Ok, dialing down the watering schedule worked and she's holding her leaves up again:

Here's a nice view of the top. There should be 2 tops forming now after FIMming it a couple days ago:

You can see some of the small improvements I made recently:

The object is to make it possible to slide the whole works out of the cabinet and back in, even after the plant's full grown and embedded in the SCROG screen. So I taped some of the power cords to the wall and I chopped that Pampers box in half to make it shorter. I'll also have to run a longer air pump tubing along the right wall to replace the line that's currently just hanging down. The way it is, it'll be in the way of the SCROG frame after I attach it, so I need to move the hose and tape it to the wall.

The PVC pipe that I screwed to the yellow bucket is the bottom of the SCROG frame. So when I pull the pot out of the cabinet, the whole SCROG setup will come out with it.

You are planning on upgrading your circulating fan right?? because your bitch is gonna be huge with that res. size and will need it.

nice gardening and great pics, which I always enjoy:weed:

You think I should get a bigger oscillating fan or something like that? I always just used several PC fans placed around the cabinet in different spots, but I'm open to suggestions.

Nothing special to post today, except for the latest pictures.

I can't get over how healthy this plant is, now that I'm adding Cal/Mag to the base nutes.

I have a feeling this thing is going to be a beast. I only hope she doesn't outgrow my little cabinet.

Look at these lush, healthy leaves:

You're about to see an explosion of growth

Since supplementing Hydroponic Research V + B, which already has ~ 13% CaMg, with ~ 60ppms of Botanicare CaMg+, my clones have exploded

simplified SCROG frame...

I found a whole kit at Bed Bath and Beyond for $20

I added only 1 ml/liter of Advanced Nutrients Cal/Mag. That was enough to eliminate the leaf damage problem. Glad to hear of your success with it. You should post a pic of your clones.

That thing in your photo looks like the Tinker Toys I played with as a kid. I can't figure out whether or not you're making a joke about it.

Will post clones in a minute.

Not a joke. I have thought about how to build an inner tent frame for the purpose of having places to tie down long sat branches (mine snap from heavy buds, even though the branches are quite sturdy), and quasi-train, but it would also act as a simple scrog frame.

Like you, TTs came to my mind, but checking into them, they are $$$$$, then I came across this Discovery tent frame kit. The dowels are too flimsy + diagonal bars are needed to increase load capacity. I found dowels at Lowes, but got the wrong diameter, so to be continued, but one kit should fill a 2 x 4 x 6ft tent

Pics taken on 12/15. They have grown quite a bit since

Interesting... I'd like to see how it turns out. Is your journal referenced by one of the links in your signature?

I've used PVC before, so it wasn't too hard to build a frame using those 1/2" pipes, like The Dawg's frame.

Yes click on my sig for current grow, but it does not have the cube

I started a thread using my clones (which I will incorporate the cubes into) over on IC.

Not sure I want to double it up here as well

These are being lit with the 2 ufos I go from Jeff at A51. These certainly work great for vegging

Looking good, dave. What's the distance from your LED to the base of the plant? Which cal-mag product did you get? Why is cal-mag used as a supplement, doesn't Advanced Nutrients add this in their Sensi prodcuts? Sorry if it's a newbie question.

What is IC and can I follow your grow over there? I'm curious how the scrog frame will work out.
