defoliation when in flower

This is one of those topics that is highly debated. I've been doing defoliation on day 1 and 21 of 12/12 for many years now. I can't imagine pulling down more larfy fluff than prime rock hard killer buds. This technique has served me very well. Also in over 20 years of indoor, I've yet to experience powdery mildew or spider mites. Mabey I'm just lucky, or.... smarter than the average bear.

Thanks, nice grow. I'm finding out that it is highly debated. So far I'm just snipping the latent new bud spots that won't get enough light to mature.

I'm torn I can barely keep up with maintenance as is.

Thanks. Opening them up some won't hurt one bit. Gotta get more light and air movement to all flower sites. Cannabis is a wind pollinated plant and delegates priority to flowers that are more likely to become pollinated. Obviously light is a huge driver of photosynthesis. You'll be quite surprised at the increase of prime buds and very little larf. Timing is important tho. Day 1 and 21 of 12/12. After that I don't touch them for several weeks. Afterwards, Mabey a nip here and there just to maximize light penetration, but it's very selective. The way I see everything in the canna realm is, it can't hurt to try once or twice.

I'm right at 20 days, behind on maintenance so just clipped a lot of branches that are not going to thrive. I'll hit it one more time tomorrow and then sit back.

I've never knowingly planted different strains and this time I have three, it'll be interesting to see when they mature.

These pictures are from today before the snip. I can see big fans up on top in the picture that have to go.

Looks good. They don't look like much when theyre little, but they sure do fill out once they find their feet. What strains do you have going?

I started with 9 fems in a 4x8 and tossed 3. Glad I did too because I wouldn't have had enough room. 4 strain here.

These are my first ever bean ordered, what a difference and I'm not constantly checking for males.

Blue Dream fem
Watermelon Candy fem
Runtz fem

2 of each for a total of 6 but I should have tossed 2 of them because now I'm struggling to manage them all.

Why did you pick those strains?

Nice! Blue dream is one of my favorites. Heard alot of good things about runtz, never had it tho.
Almost everything I have I've made. I focus on effects and tend to gravitate to a full spectrum body and head high, so the cannabanoid profile is a big one. Everything nowadays is gonna have THC, but lack in the other cannabanoid dept.

Terps are the other main focus for me also, they play a large role in how the cannabanoids work.
Back in the day I was focusing on high yields, that has been long gone. Now I just want the tastiest and well rounded cultivars. Uniquely individual from the other.

Lastly would be old school genetics. I've been at this for a couple decades now. I've got gear and made gear that today's cultivars were derived from. The gene pool has been diluted down so badly, you have to pop 1000 beans just to find something unique. And even at that, it's still a hybrid of a hybrid of a hybrid, ect... basically it's all the same shit, just renamed with some stupid ass catchy lingo.

need to defoliate NOW - you going to have quite a pile of fans and your plan will look like "shit" but the next day good things happen
Definitely how to pile LOL but I can see why it's advantageous to uncover the covered so I'm definitely on the fan cutter side. They look a little haggered today after taking all that snippin.

Btw. Made my second stupid move on this grow. When I checked on it the door was open could have been open all day or just an hour who knows? But fortunately I hope, it would've been in dim light so not too much damage done.
