Dense Nugs

Hey guys, I'm vegging 7 plants right now in soil and under four 40 watt tubes (2225 lumens) and six soft white cfls (2700K, 1750 lumens)...any nutrients or tips on growing these things so that my buds will be nice and dense? I'm planning on keeping 3-4 plants once they sex.

I don't have a lot of experience with cfl's other than using them for seedlings but word on the playground is that the more intense light from HPS is what is needed to form the really solid nugs, I have read here that cfl buds tend to be more airy.
Once you switch to 12/12 you will want a bloom fertilizer that is low in N, and higher in P & K. I like Age old organics Bloom with Molasses, bat guano, super thrive & aquarium water. Take a look in the forum section at the top left - quite a few sections there for you to cut your teeth on.

totally wrong, if you use them properly you get perfect dence nugs no different to HPS, as long as its a small grow cfl is just as good, hps can cover and produce a lot more but cfl can make those nugs dence

Pay attention, I didn't say that the CFL wouldn't produce, I said that HID is a better option.

High pressure sodium lights emit mostly orange, yellow, and red spectrum light, which is perfect for the flowering stage of the plants growth. They are (in my opinion) the most efficient type of light available for any application. HPS lights can be used through-out the entire grow. They produce more dense and usually larger buds than any other light."

yup , both greatwhitenorth and toejam are right . i chopped a couple plants from my cfl grow that were very airy but now i still have one left and all of the lights are able to be focused in all places where light is needed . now the buds have gotton way more dense with the 14 bulbs covering 1 plant instead of 5. hope that helps
 
my last grow I have very dense nug's and I use only cfl's I'm not sure why one wouldn't think that they would get dense nugs......I keep the lights very close to the plants and seem to have no problem with airy stuff. :peace:
 
I used to grow with nothing but cfls
i was always happy with my buds
as far as being nice and dense.
I'm no expert, nor do i have a major
grow op. I started growing for one reason
so i never had to deal with buying weed again.
That being said, it seemed like i always
had to buy weed between harvests.
My cfl grown plants never had the overall
weight to get me from harvest to harvest.
As i said, my op is very small. For a lot of
reasons, i only flower 2 plants at any one
time under T5s and 42w cfls. I'd get decent grows,
but nothing over 2oz/plant.
More like 2-2.5oz between 2 plants.
I decided to try to go perpetual.
I figured the fastest way to get there was to flower with hps.
I still veg with T5/cfls but i set up a new flower room
with a 250w hps to flower under.
That one change, albeit a big change
took me from 2-2.5oz per grow, to anywhere
from 5-7oz per grow.
This is in no way a knock on cfls, as i still use them for veg,
and thinking of using a few in flowering.
I'm sure with a few changes, i could of
gotten better weight results with cfls, but with hps, basically,
if you've got a few cfl grows under
your belt, and have an idea of what you're
doing, without much trouble, you can
really increase your yields.
Density also will never again be an issue for me.

lol I never said that cfl will produce bigger nugs than hps but that they can make then dense just on a smaller scale, any way I didn't plan on this turning into a cfl vs hps thingy.

Any way +rep for that giant bud my friend:peace:

Hi White Ryno :-)

If you want dense buds you must (a) keep the bulbs close as possible and (b) make sure you let them fully ripen before harvest! The longer you leave them the more they will 'harden up' ...... way too much bud cut way too early is why we see 'so many 'fluffy' buds both CFL and HPS !

My experience? Started growing outdoors about 15 years ago, moved indoors and up to the old 'strip' flouros, then onto a 400watt HPS then to a 600watt HPS. Got an unexpected visit from the 'boys in blue' a couple of years back and they of course removed everything, plants, lighting, PC's etc :-( Decided to start again and keep it 'simple' just a couple of plants under CFL's.

2 years later I can tell you that there is NO DIFFERENCE IN DENSITY if you grow correctly using CFL's....... and I stand by that. I wouldnt normally get drawn into these debates BUT this is the CFL growers section so why post here telling 'us' to switch to HPS for better results? Each to his or her own I say :bigjoint:

Anyway, put together a few pics of my CFL grown plants from the last couple of years.... you must make up your own mind I guess.

I'm about six weeks into flowering a stunted little white widow. While the buds aren't huge they're pretty hard and very sticky. I only have one 26w bulb on top and another two on two sides of it.

Of course hps is better. Maybe you guys might want to look at what forum you're in though and take the preaching somewhere else? I'm happy that you have a 20389802894w setup and that you grow the best buds on earth. Some of us are trying to make the best out of what we can work with. Can you let us have that? Thanks.

Currently I use 20ish CLF's for about 9 plants(which will thin down during flower as they sex) They very in wattage but I believe most of them are ?23? watt and 2700k lights. My last grow I had 5 plants that were fems and I got almost 3oz dried....Not bad for my first grow i don't believe and it was good. I probably break every grow rule including using MG soil.

This is the cfl forum bro. In every relevant cfl topic on every forum there's at least one person, if not more, that adds nothing to the topic other than "hps is better". Explain how to get more dense nugs with cfls if you want to teach.

You didn't offend me. I'm just tired of seeing cfl topics ruined by the "hps is better" broken record.
