If you don't have real bad sand storms you're fine. Put up some tan shade cloth to keep them from getting sun burnt and water frequently when hot, especially when they get a little big for their pots. Best part of growing in the desert is that you can veg indoors or outdoors with supplemental lighting and flower from august until May without having to worry about more than a day or two of frost.

I live in the high desert. In between San Diego and El centro,ca. At 4,000 ft elevation. I have found the hardest condition to battle is the high winds and low humidity, silica helps . My dad says it's like a hair dryer haha.sometimes feels like it.but it also has up side,dnt really get pm(knock on wood). Can't grow in the ground,all granite and sand.being in the mountains ,I don't get that hot thoe,i mean it was 97 last week but that's about hot as it will get,but there's usually always atleast a slight breeze. I put up screens,fence, and tarps to block wind,and keep cool. Good luck

They make a product called aluminet http://www.shadeclothstore.com/products/product.aspx?sku=AL3000&dept=172 I use 30% block to protect the plants in the hottest part of the day (it gets 110+ here) letting them get all the morning and late afternoon sun. this stuff keeps the temp down and blocks the heat so the plants don't go into slumber mode. The plants stop growing after they get to hot and with this stuff they still grow because they stay cooler.
