Yeah, the tomatoes I bought today look kind of rough...totally rootbound so they will love their new home.

Here are a couple of pictures of the new planting bed. The tomatoes look a little rough but I am confidant that they will bounce back. Now I need to make a frame for the second bed and get some shade cloth. The summer is definitely coming and many days of above 110, so they will need all the help they can.

I love how clean it looks. I'm not a huge fan of the gardens that look like a big mess of plants all together.

so what all is in your second bed now?
and man that sucks you have to cover them from the sun on the hot days. i think the hottest we will get up here is 110 for maybe a day. our average in summer is like 90-100 but the plants seem to like it as long as they were watered good the night before

Thank you, I like it clean too and attempted to plant in rows. The first bed is a bit too busy for me, my girlfriend went a little crazy with petunias in there. I am thinking about pulling them out to give the plants some extra room and not have to fight over nutrients.

Look a few post down and you will see a list of the stuff I got. I am going to let them get used to their new home and perk up a bit and will do a full on picture update of the new bed. I will probably go home for lunch and can do it then and update this afternoon.

nice update DS. you are right them toms do not look to good, but im sure in about a week they will be much better looking due to your work and care for them. i see your already getting peppers as well you'll be eating some in no time now.
your last pic kinda looks like a cucumber to me or a lemon cucumber.
did you just forget what it was? or forgot to label?

The label is missing. It probably is a cucumber, actually now that i think of it, it is a "Slicing" Cucumber

Hey all! It has been a long time since I posted in this journal. The garden is growing great! Even those rough tomatoes are looking better. Not 100% yet, but on their way. Since it has been so long I took some pictures for you all. Enjoy!

things are looking great. and i thought that was a full update.
we have been getting rain and hail since i planted and it sucks, it was nice for 2 days after they were planted and then it turned to shit, all this week is off and on showers with like 2 nice days, i hope my plants survive the week, i think they should though they went through a hail storm today and it didnt seem to do any damage

But I just got a jalapeno plant and a different new mexican chili plant
also got 3 different strains of tomatos
going into some pots with FFOF... I'm going to try to keep the chilis healthy for at least a few years - see how big I can get them!
Hopefully I can get some good growth, I feel like the season will be LOnnnggg here
anyway I'm subbed

I guess it wasn't a full update in the sense that I went through all the bed plants. Maybe I will try to get into a schedule of updating the bedding plants on one day of the week and the potted plants on another day. Anyways, thanks for the compliment!

Sounds good. Yeah, it should be a nice, long season and I am lucky enough that I am able to start so early. Those plants should love the Fox Farm. Will you have them on a drip system or hand water them? I am using three different soils (four if you count the planting beds) this year and all are behaving differently. Some plants are potted in re-used Miracle Grow potting soil from the last few years, some are planted in Miracle Grow In ground soil, and a few are in Fox Farm. The reason I am going in to all this is that they all have different moisture retention. Honestly, for the upcoming summer here, I like the Miracle Grow for In ground use the best so far because it has the highest moisture retention. It still drains well, but doesn't dry out too quickly. What is strange is the Potting Mix Miracle grow drys out the fastest. So for my climate's needs, I would rank them Miracle Grow in ground first, Fox Farm Second, and Miracle Grow Potting mix third. The planting beds are filled with organic compost that has awesome moisture retention but isn't water logged. The only problem with it is that it literally has no nutrients in it so I have to hand feed every couple of weeks but that is turning out to be fun. Sorry for the rambling, but it is my thread damn it!
