Design my new grow room.

Hi. I finally have the opportunity to grow again, so ive decided to post all the steps i take. Nothing is set in stone, and all advise will be needed.

First lets answer a few questions before they are asked:

Room dimensions: Flower, 12x5.5
Veg/Mother 2x3ish closet

Lights available: 600w hps/mh switchable with 6 inch cooltube
400w hps 4 inch cooltube
Small 4 bulb cfl htg veg/clone
Misc 100w equiv cfls

Fans: 6 inch 460cfm vortex
4 inch 180cfm cheapy vortex clone
Misc computer fans rated from 80cfm-120cfm
Fan speed controllers

Medium: Not sure what i am going to use, i still have most of a bag of FFOF left from last grow. Leaning toward that.

Type of Grow: This is still up in the air. Need input to make a decent decision. Last grow was a single plant scrog. I am seriously thinking of doing a perpetual 12/12 from rooted
clone grow. That way my electric bill is smaller than it has been.

Other thoughts: In the past i have seriously bad luck with my grows. Always running into problems because of how poor i am. This time will be different than before.

Lets dig into the room, have a lot of work to do, but first i need to know where my homemade plant table(not built yet) will be going.
There is a few snags in the positioning of the room, but none that i cant get around. For example the intake must be run through the attic to be able to be ran into the living room where it can collect cool air. The exhaust will be ran in the attic as well but it will attach to a existing bathroom vent, exiting out a stack on the roof. There's a window that has a awkward size that conventional window air conditioners wouldn't fit unless i took the window out and made a trim board. If i did that there would be no need to run the intake two rooms over. But i cant have the air conditioner leaking light to the outside since it will be dark outside when the lights are on.

Sorry about the paragraph o' boredom, here's some pics of the raw room:

Had to use my iPhone for these pics, so there kinda shitty. Better pics when my sd card reader comes in.

Basically I want to know.... What would you do in my situation?

think you should insulate that water heater and the pipes too.
Yep, I already have some insulation, just need to get some pipe wraps. I am also thinking of walling off the water heater as well to prevent it changing the targeted environment.

Cheers

i was going to say make a false wall for that water heater ( just a frame it and then drywall leaving one of the peaice on stong magnets to keep it to framing (allow u to repair and check on it when need be) ....give u a platform too to use for seedlings (should be warmer on top of that then most places)

Good idea with the platform over the water heater for seedlings, although i have a small closet for my mother and however many seedlings. Gonna use my 4ft flouros for that little area.

Not decided yet on whether i should run 12/12 from rooted clone (~2 weeks veg) or scrog (~6 weeks veg).

Pros/Cons of each?

have u looked into those single well 8/16 pod cloner system ..............i was thinking of one of those with a DWC set up .............the air pumps are quiet and if u go alot of plants each bucket could be it own exp to get the right nutrenits ..........if u do go alot u can but one pump that does 8/12 lines

i like DWC and soil .............just if u do DWC rem to add a drain line/ water lvl this way u can look at the water with out picking up lids and filling draining is alot easier .......if u run hot just set buckets on the cool floor if u run cold set them up little higher

as for times i am a 24/0 and a 20/4 .....but i work in autos right now

Ive used those cloners before and have one now. Gonna stick with plain dirt in those egg crate trays. I want to keep this grow as simple as i can. I smoke way too much meds to be wasting time thinking.
As for the autos, i would use them, but i think that my power bill might be a tad better with 12/12 using just my 600w and T5s

Going to the store tomorrow morning to get all the supplies i need to get the operation going.

Some progress was made even though I was medicated to the point of confusion all day. Put together a movable grow table with some scrap. There isn't a strait cut on the whole thing.. oh well its solid and its level. I also made the mistake of assuming that the attic was all clear... The room i am working on is a add on, with a new roof over top. Old roof is still under there. I had to squeeze the ducting to make a bend to an open spot. Since that's the case, i cant pull air from my air-conditioned room. Forcing me to go buy a portable ac.

On a side note, i see taproots! Day One has begun. 5/26

Feel free to point out any thing i am missing.! :peace:

You can use this for the pipewrap insulation. Or, if you have the time you can cut the bulk material into strips. It's identical to the Reflectix product.
Cool, i have some good insulation and will be checking my local hardware store for the pipewrap you suggested. ;]

Carbon filter a some point for smell....
My last two grows i never needed a filter, although during flowering i had to use a few cans of fabreeze. The filter i have is a 4 inch, all i run now is 6 inch. Going to see what happens this time to determine if i need one or not.

So.. small update. I cant find the studs in the ceiling because of a 2nd layer of old nasty drywall, so i am having problems mounting the light. Thinking of making some sort of bracket.

Ill continue here until the room is complete, then move to a grow journal.

Thanks riu
