Determining the sex

Im sure this has been covered many times and im sorry to ask again.
Ive searched around and some sites say that you need to switch your light cycle in order to trigger your plants to show their sex. is this true?
im running 24 hours of light for about 5 weeks. if i wait longer will the plants show their sex? or should i switch to 12/12?

switch to 12/12 and the plants will do their thing.:bigjoint:

No, they will show sex in veg when mature.

You need to flip the switch to start them flowering.

well.. they won't flower till you switch to 12/12.. but that wasn't you origianl ?... if you leave them in veg long enough.. they will reach sexual maturity and will develop preflowers.. males look like a lil ball, and females are a long spikey thingy with two hairs sticking out of it.. a lot of people suggest leaving the plant in veg till it shows preflowers, but others will say to just put them under 12/12... it all depends on how much room you have in your grow area.. plants will double or possibly triple in size from when you switch them to 12/12, so some people don't have the room to wait for the plants to show preflowers in vegeitve growth before switching to 12/12, and other people who have the room and prefer to grow fewer bigger plants will veg the plants till the reach sexual maturity.. it all depends on the grower and what style they prefer to grow with.. this is why you will get different answers to the same ?..

how long should it take for them to show their sex if i go to 12/12 though?

they will usually show in about a week or two... strain dependent of course.. some show faster, some slower.. and males tend to show sex faster then females, so if one or two are a little slow to sex for you, it maybe a good sign..

if you want to know what to look for better than the great descriptions that i gave you, lol... just do a google search for marijuana preflowers.. and you will find plenty of good pix for it..

let me reitterate, you can wait to maturity, they will probably show by week 12(strain related, some way earlier).

or, you can put them in 12/12 for 10 days, this is usually long enough to show sex. you can then pull them back out when sex is determined. this is a great method for finding your mother plants, and removing males. the plants will revert back to veg., when you pull them out, and return to 16/8.

if you got clones or feminised, then just throw them into 12/12 and they will flower on their own.:joint::joint::joint:

Plants won't bud till they sense the season is growing short 12/12 after the first month let them do their thing pick the male out and your good to go they will show their sex about a week (give or take a couple days) of 12/12 lighting

That Plant Is A Male Kill em Or use him to breed you can make hash oil out of him too

well im a newbie but if u want a female plant buy feminized seeds XD, but some guy told me not to waste male plants, cuz u can use them to practice and save the pollen to get seeds :D

Can anyone tell me if there is any thing that I could have screwed up to make 4 out of 5 plants become male. I just lost my whole crop. Out of six plants, one was gimpy from the start. 4 turned to mails.

It's just a roll of the dice with seeds. Stress can also cause females to become male or hermie and there's a bunch of ways to stress your plants. But 5 out of 6 being male though not common isn't impossible.

Good news though, you have a fem. So you can use her as a mommy plant and pull clippings/clones and get yourself a whole army of fems. Cloning is the only real way to make sure you get 100% fems.

hey so i was being mad stupid, i didnt think my plants were in pre flower but apparently it started like 2 weeks ago lol. so i looked really close and i think i have 1 male out of 4 as it is the only plant with a lot of sacs. how does the pollination work? is it possible that the male already pollianted my females and i wont get bud? there is a bunch of sacs around stems that have leaves coming out of them, but i didnt see any open sacs.
