Diatomaceous earth for gnats in coco. Need advice

Pull the plants out of the pots, then stuff the coco/root balls down into xxl panty hose liners, like bagging them up. Smaller pots can be covered completely with the right size. Then tie off the opening section of the pantie hose around the stalk with a twisty tie, so all the medium below is sealed off. Stuff it right back into the pot, and then resume watering as normal (right through the fabric liner, which the gnats can't fly through), and continue using the BTi if you want. Probably won't need it though.
Can I try the pantyhose on first before wrapping my containers with them? :eyesmoke:

I would need a lot of freaking pantyhose man. A lot

From 5 drops per gallon to 1-2 tbsp/gal? I use 80 gallons of water a week. That would get more expensive than the pantyhose :eyesmoke:
Lol if u buy the little things at Petco maybe. We used to go thru almost 100 gallons every 3 days and that's why I switched from gnatrol so I get it. The price will fluctuate but usually u can find a sale or coupon and get the gallon for 100-120

I’ve used diatomaceous earth with soil before but not sure how it works with coco. I pretty much covered the whole surface of my soil and let the pots dry out real well. Def worked.

Absolutely.

You can cut them up to size and tape sections around the rim/stalk, and put little sheets over each one of the drainage holes of the pots. Nothing but water gets in and out. Make whatever size sheets you need and stretch to fit. Cut slits to wrap the covers around the plants.

Ends up costing a buck for every so many pots depending on size.. Compare that to buying sticky traps and biological agents.. Its pretty much a guarantee, nothing in or out but water/nutes.. If I ever went back to DTW coco, I would just grow all my plants in doubled up pantie sacks, and poke the drip lines down in when trying them up. Never worry about gnats again.. :bigjoint:

lol ya man it definitely sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the link. Have to buy these online and give it a shot. Try one tent at a time. I don't think it would look too good if I walked into a Dollartree and went up to the counter with 60 pairs of pantyhose rofl :eyesmoke:

My first time buying was pretty embarrassing.. I had to look at every package in the panty hose isle to make sure I was getting the right sizes, let alone standing in line at the counter.. Had I known I could go to the dollar store..

That's crazy I can't believe bmc isn't working for you guys! It's always worked for me and everyone else I know who's used it! Really weird.
I'm only on my second full week of using it. Most of the gnats are using the bottom of the pots where the holes on the sides are. So now every watering I drown them out from the top and keep the water in the saucer for 10 minutes. Then vacuum. Been using 5 drops per gallon but went to 10 drops today.
