Diesel generator

Has anyone ever thought of using a diesel generator to power their lights?

If you can find a restaurant prepared to give you their old veggie oil and you turn it into biodiesel, you benefit from the veggie oil smell covering your crops smell and free electricity!!

and also the questions from neighbours, locals, postie, etc etc et asking why your whole palce stinks of veggie oil and why you have a loud generator running when you lights and socket seem to be working just fine.

it would certainly work jsut fine, but would certainly not be subtle

There was an article in High Times a few months back, i think it was called "Diesel Dope" and they mentioned the number of gallons used to produce one pound of herb. I forget the exact number, but i think a factor to consider is that if you start down this road, you may be getting ready to burn thousands of gallons of diesel over the course of the grow, which means you will be either paying out the ass, or spending many many hours gathering used veggie oil, and either filtering it, replacing filters often, or convert it to diesel, forcing you to buy expensive, large equipment, as well as regularly buying processing chemicals.
If you have the money, check into wind generators or solar panels.

I run my car on veggie oil and i get about 60litres from 1 restaurant alone!! If you get a quiet generator, it shouldnt be too loud. Also you could connect the rest of your house to it!! Why would neighbours get suspicious?? The a slight smell of veggie oil will be lingering in the air making the smell of your green less obvious.

 yes.... There's a fellow down the road who is operating a bio diesel business on his "residence".

He is getting reported next week. Ppl around him are fed up with it, and he's not zoned for it.

He's about to run into 20-30k in lawyers fees if he resists.

Well, he's commercial. I think if you do it for personal use... no problem zoning wise.

If you go commercial, you have to deal with EPA, county, state. In, this area, everyone is on well water. The potential for disrupting everyone's drinking water is real. He's only been able to do it because no one called him on it. He also is in a financial hard spot from poor decisions and everyone sympathizes (sort of). But he has had months to get another location and he has given every indication he wants to do it "on the cheap". The ppl right around him have had it.... his troubles are about to get very official and very expensive.

He just doesn't know it yet. That's the way short cuts go.... sometimes right into a dead end.
