Diesel Ryder 250w CFL Grow

I know this isnt answering the original question but for information purposes, I just got done with 11 outdoor JD's Ak's, two different phenos for sure, ranged from 18in-48in. I did start them under cfl for 1wk, about 3wks under mh1k watt /hps400k to try and get some good growth in the beginning and the 20hr light is preferential to outside. Ive just harvested 8 at day 68, that was 2 days ago, they dont take long to dry but Im trying to slow it up a bit 69deg 55%hum and two small fans, probably be a week before I jar them up. Trimmed wet weight for 8 plants was 684g's that was 24hrs after harvest so they had lost a little weight, but Im expecting from the looks of things probably 12-15oz from the 8, so with the remaining 3 I'll for sure pass my mark, which I had my doubts from hearing about others outdoor runs. Pleasantly surprised about the quality, super fruity smelling, but I havent even tried the smoke out yet. Also got those 3 nirvana auto promos, NL, Bubble, JockHorror started outside about 2wks ago and there taking off great, there all about a ft tall and look exactly the same, I mean exactly, but extemely healthy, vigorous little girls. Im probably going to make a little journal about the autos and hopefully start one about the outdoor, nothing like growing some some big ones. I'll check back and give some more accurate info of actual weight, but Im sold on atleast the joint doctors easy ryder, very easy to grow, quick, nice fruitiness, very fun to grow. I followed the advice given and always kept the soil moist, which was FF OF/ Pro Mix, botanicare nutes, one final hit with foxfarm cha-ching, 2wk flush and go time. Im interested if anyone has any experience with grassomatic at all, Im thinking about trying their auto critical mass x auto AK, Im wondering if theres any increase in yield, I would think so if it was all done in time, anyways any info would be appreciated. Take Care, Peace

What kind of budget are you working with, you looking for 250 only, cause it would probably be cost worthy to go with 400w setup if possible, as far as bang for your buck in a small space. Wish I knew where some great deals are, Im decent friend with local hydro store owner so I basicly get equipment, nutes just above wholesale, so Im not too familiar with internet hydro stores. Find the best deal you can, its for sure worth the money without a doubt to upgrade to hps. I like autos for sure but one side note is I can take a reg plant veg for 2wks and flower and get almost dbl the yield but it takes 2-4wks longer and its less money on power bill. So in the end for me, there great for closet type grows with limited space and light issues, guerilla grows, bumper harvests or just back yard with the veggie garden, there absolutely great to have one the side and for those with space issues. Good luck to every1, Happy 4th of July, be safe and take care...by the way my little town of Red Bluff, CA just had the first annual (High Time) Hemp Fest, it seemed to go over pretty well for a 1st event, big deal for this town, mostly very conservative and for sure naive and ignorant, but Im glad to say my hometown actually had a hemp fest, never thought that would happen. Peace Every1!!!!

http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/yield-master6galaxy-400w-120v240v-hps-electronic-grow-light-p-2284.html

With this fan.
http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/valueline-inch-435-cfm-centrifugal-inline-fan-p-2260.html

Could somone help me out with this purchase so i can know what im about to buy.
I have a few questions like.
Is there only one 6" duct because then i wont be able to blow air through my light and have my fan live longer.
The light gets hot thats why you air cool it but the ballast does to so you keep it in an other room or as far away from the grow?
Finally how far away do you keep a 400w hps from your plants?

Ordered the light, fan, and 25ft of 6in ducting.
Hopefully i can cut the ducting and the light comes with glass to enclose the hood...im sure about both..sorta lol

I just lost my HPS virginity!!! YES! haha

Problems

I fed them a Tbsp of FFTB instead of a Tsp but within 5 min of feeding i realized and gave them twice as much water so technically it was the right ratio just lots of feeding.

So i was looking at my plants and only this one was affected, it is also the biggest plant, anyway here are some pictures. Any feedback would be awesome.

They just got alot of white hairs the last few days but those pictures will be for next week!

yea that girl is burned...also could be just that it's not getting enough light the bottom leaves will wilt and the plant will shed them if its not getting enough light to them, with CFL's they cant penatrate more than a foot or so..I know cuz I grew with CFL's and T5's for a long time and I actually have a small indoor grow using a 4ft 6 bulb T8 right now.

Honestly I would switch to HPS only if you have the $ to buy/run it and if your in a tight area, you'll have a inline fan running 24/7 try'n to keep the temps low....

here's how to calculate how much it will cost... (KwH x Kw x H x D) KwH(kiloWatt Per Hour/rate in your area(mines about $0.11) x Kw(bulbs wattage 400w= .4 Kw) x H(hours a day used 12-18) x D(days used a month 30) = Estimate this insnt including the fan's.. your looking basicly in my area it would be (.11 x .40 x 12 x 30)=15.84 a month and it goes up drasticly when you move to 600w and 1000w and add in an inline fan, reg fan, water, nutes.. If your going to go with a 400w HPS I wouldnt grow auto flowering strains anymore..they may be nice and quick and a good learning experince no doubt, but you can do some small, SCroG style plants, and get a hell of a better yeild in just a months worth of extra veg time..

You'll also get a chance to really learn how cannabis is grown, and it wont be that long as to give you a chance to really fuck it up, LOL...jk...you'll learn alot and like it was stated above you need to be able to read your plants and that just comes with time, ALOT of time in the garden...

oh and i noticed while reading your thread I dont know if I got this out of context but someone stated that once they fed their plants they perked up and you could tell they were fed this way...thats not the case, your plants perked up b/c they were watered regaurdless and they also "sleep" at night and "wake up" at dawn...

your soil also doesnt need to dry out in between waterings b/c the roots need to "search" for water thats not the way it works, the soil does need to dry out just b/c the roots need just as much oxygen as they do h2o, and you should learn to take care of your roots better than the above ground plant...your plant will be nothing without strong roots the bigger your root system the healthier your plant and bigger the yeild.. this doesnt really matter w/ auto's b/c their short life but it's somthing to keep in mind

if you need some more info or be pointed in the right direction...with anything PM me I'm always willing to start someone off on the right path...theres a TON of mis informed ppl on here and TONS of myths that ppl think are 100% true it's rediculous, and alot of it seems plausable to noob's but really isn't the best thing for you or your plants

sorry if I asked this already... are you using a ph meter?
Neither for the water or the soil, is that something i should invest in?

Definitely! I just picked up one, MILWAUKEE pH600 pH METER. It was recommend by a few members on here, if you do get it don't forget the storage solution!

Plants are looking good, I have those yellow tips on one of my plants too. I'm not sure what was causing it but I know my runoff was 8.4 so I'm sure that didn't help. So maybe either water or nute burn.. This is my first grow so I couldn't tell you but when I think I have it figured out I'll let you know!

I cut my leaves off when more the 50% is yellow and its clearly dead and taking up light. This was recommended to me by a friend who has several years of growing under his belt, not saying its the right thing to do, its just what I was taught.
