when you top you make a clean cut removing all of the top of the plant between two nodes. this will cause the top two nodes to grow into two new tops.

when you fem you cut off the top HALF of the cluster of new growth at the top of the plant. if you can cut it at the VERY tip down inside the cluster you will cause the top of the plant to split off into numerous directions.

i'm a liitle fuzzy. that's the best way i can word it right now. hope this helps.

so you cut the same place you would if you were to top the plant except you cut half off instead of all of it?

are you suppose to make a curved cut when fem the plant?

it's hard for me to explain, so i drew a picture. you want to leave a nub of growth right at the very tip.

cut at red line.
