Difficultly of Obtaining California Med Card

My friend lives in California (LA area) and is looking to get a med card. Do you actually need to bring proof of anything in to get a card? How hard is it to obtain? I've heard it's easy but I don't know how easy. He actually does have legit medical issues, but I'd like to know if they give cards without any proof.

Thanks

Pretty simple. Go to weedmaps.com look for the closest doctor. All you need is $$ and a ID. You can bring medical records if you like.

Time wise, I have never spent over 10 min w/ a doctor.

Yes I did, I was acutally pulling permits in LA, and I was like I need to get my card again, looked it up on my phone , happened to be really close walked in then walked out.

Alright, thanks, that clears some up.

But has anyone succeeded with no medical records?

So it sounds like you had to show it to them before, then they had the info saved and looked it up through your phone number?

Yes, I got a physician's recommendation in LA (Hollywood) without medical records. Cost $150.00.
So is a recommendation required first, or can someone bring their medical records (showing a treatable issue) straight to a MMJ doctor and get a card?

Sorry for so many questions lol, but you guys have been the most helpful so far. Thanks

Yes, a recommendation is required first. I can't speak for all doctors, but the doctor I saw did not require any medical records. I filled out the typical medical history forms, she (the doctor) asked me questions and did a physical, and I got a recommendation.

I'm almost 100% sure that this is all you need to be legal in California...I won't fully commit since I'm not a lawyer.

Once you have a recommendation, you can ALSO get a VOLUNTARY state or county-issued MJ ID card at an EXTRA cost. This card is NOT required to be a PATIENT in CA. The card can, in theory, help you with law enforcement; if all you have is a recommendation then LEO can haul you in and confiscate your weed until they verify that your recommendation is valid. The ID card is supposed to be verification of your recommendation that you can present to LEO, who then would say "OK, have a nice day".

So you have to pay a fee to see a MMJ physician for a recommendation, then a fee to get the card, correct?

If so, do you get the card at the physician's office, or is it a separate place?

Basically, the California MMJ ID card Program is an optional program that is regulated on the county level. IF your county has a MMJ ID card program (most, but not all, do) you will need to contact your county. A listing of each county's MMJ program is listed on the California Department of Public Health website: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/services/Pages/MMPCounties.aspx

You will need to fill out an application: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/pubsforms/forms/CtrldForms/cdph9042.pdf

You will also need your doctor's recommendation.

The cost for registering includes a $66.00 state fee plus any additional county fees.

Again, in CA all you NEED is a doctor's recommendation to be a legal patient. The ID card is OPTIONAL.
