dig a hole, fill it with soil?

Is this possible? I heard mixing soils can be harmful and possibly confuse the plant with different nutes. Sorry I'm extremely noob, 2nd time growing and I'm doing NL x Skunk with Arjan's Ultra Haze #1. Basically I'm thinking of just digging 3 feet holes for each seedling and filling it with Fox Farm soil. Nutes and other essentials will be considered after, I just didn't want to buy a shitload of 3 gallon pots to put my seedlings in. I'm also starting outdoors in early-middle April, so lots of time to vegetate (hence the deep enough hole).

So what ya think? Yes/no?

Lemme know the deal, any help is greatly appreciated and valued  Thanks!

Sounds good but till in some of the dirt so the roots grow into the FF and the soil they will be in later. The root system is twice the size of the plant. A plant that is 6ft tall can have roots 12 ft deep. I dig a 2 ft hole and till in Miracle Grow potting soil. Happy growing. Peace Out!

Nice, thanks a lot! So I shouldn't have any problems if I till the soil, then pour the FF ontop?

I mean, I shouldn't MIX the soil right? Just add about 2 feet worth of soil and then plant the seedling.

I wouldnt see why mixing soils would be horrible..... really youre planting in the ground..wouldnt the roots reach the outter non-pointing soil? IDK ive done the till-method with MG it it turned out great! just watch out for those damn rabbits!! hungry bastards!!

Yes, dig the holes. Perfect. The FF is not a chem base, for a good reason. Leave out any chem ferts, and you will do awesome. 80% good organic compost at the bottom, 20% FF on top.. mix in molasses, fish emulsion, seaweed, Epsom salt (one hand full per plant/hole), greensand, also same amount as salt, and your off & running. Once the hole is dug, to further root & nute access, poke holes in bottom of hole, & on the sides. Pour in seaweed & molasses mix in the little holes, for a root treat later on.

WOW great great help guys, really.

I like all those ideas and I might try them (especially molasses and perlite) but like I said I'm extremely new to this. I just picked up the Horticulture Bible and plan on reading it cover to cover, but would it just be alright if I used FF nutes? They're organic as well and include some of the things you mentioned in their formulas. I like the molasses and seaweed at the bottom and sides for the root treat around flowering. :eyesmoke:

Also when you say organic soil, you mean purchase "organic soil" instead of just using the earth's soil? Could I just use Fox Farm's Ocean Forest for the whole grow? I've heard this works great, especially for beginners not used to transplanting a lot or mixing soil.

Thus far, you are correct in your line of thought. The FF Ocean Floor is really awesome. But the next step is, instead of buying a can of chili from the "convenient store at $2.00 per 16 oz can."IE' ordering on line, or go to the local Grocery store to get same for $.49 cents - Local Nursery. These people don't advertise in the weed world, but they have what you need for a whole lot cheaper price. Lady Bug compost is good stuff, and other 100% pure organic compost is available without the high dollar on line cost. Stay out of the box stores. MG "Organic Selection" is a fucking trademark, not an organic soil. Put worms in that shit, they will OD., because worms don't do meth.
