dimmable ballest question

I have a 600 watt dimmable ballest and was wondering if i turn it to the lower settings does that effect the heat given off from the bulb because i grow in my closet and wanted to grow during the summer but its to hot at 100% for anything above 70° outside

Yes if you dim the ballast you will put off less heat but honestly venting that light (if you have not done so already) will give you way more cooling then dimming your ballast. I am in Arizona and have similar problems in the summer. Good luck!

I got my 400 on 50% and its like 90 degrees in there. Waiting for my air cooled reflector, coz this summer is going to be hot.

i have a air cool reflector and a 6 in inline fan its just that im growing in a closet thats like built into that attic so it got hot in there when outside was warmer then 65 but thank you for the answers im gunna try it out and if it doesnt work ill just have to use cfls and floressents

my dimable lights seem to run cooler wide open
seems the process of reducing is making more heat then open up all the way
go figure

I used to have the same problem with heat in the summer so I gave up. Now I start veg the 1st week of September and end my 3rd crop right now. Beats the heat, and everyone needs some time off. Peace

Very interesting I run 600w Phantoms and have a very noticable 2-3 degree drop in my canopy temps when dimmed to 60% what ballasts do you run?
