Are those dimmable ballasts with settings at %50 ,%75 %100 power ,are they reliable ?
If a 1000 watts at %100 setting it's too hot ,you drop it to %75 ... at lower settings like this is the spectrum ok ? would a 1000 watts at %50 consume the same electricity as a 500 watts ballast ???
Would the ballast make less noise ?

Thank you for answering my weird questions !

yes, your 1000 watt unit would use 750 watts at 75% and 500 watts at 50%
some say the spectrum changes at a reduced output, other say the difference is minimal and insignificant
no, the ballast will not run any quieter, as the internal fans don't slow down
some folks say running at reduced output will shorten the lifespan of the bulb...I tend to believe this is true

at a recent convention I was talking to the folks from Urban Gro (commercial cannabis lighting company) about P.L. Light HPS. They said if I need to use 600w in my tent then buy the P.L. Light HSE 600w fixture (single end, 400v HPS, virtually the same efficiency as DE). They said that would work better than the PL NXT 2 1000w fixture dimmed to 750 or 600. And these guys don't sell the 600w unit, only 1000w!

the bulb does change to a less favorable spectrum, there are published studies on this, and also it decreases the life of the bulb - you lose lumens and PAR faster.
